Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Educational Qualification

Candidates must have completed:

• A 1-year/2-semester Master’s degree after a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor’s degree, OR a 2-year/4-semester Master’s degree after a 3-year Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent qualification, with at least 55% marks in aggregate (or equivalent grade), OR
• An equivalent qualification from a recognized foreign educational institution accredited by an authorized assessment/accreditation agency in its home country.

A relaxation of 5% marks (or equivalent grade) may be allowed for SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/Differently-Abled/EWS candidates, as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.

Candidates seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor’s degree must have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate (or equivalent grade), with the same 5% relaxation for reserved categories.

Eligibility Categories (as per UGC-NET Review Committee Notification)

• Category-1: Eligible for admission to PhD with JRF (JRF prior to 2024 or of 2024), with fellowship validity and eligibility for Assistant Professor appointment.
• Category-2: Eligible for admission to PhD without JRF, with eligibility for Assistant Professor appointment (UGC-NET-2024).
• Category-3: Eligible for admission to the PhD Programme only, not for JRF or Assistant Professor eligibility (UGC-NET-2024).

In-service candidates must submit a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer, failing which their application will be rejected. Candidates admitted as unemployed candidates who later apply for registration as in-service candidates must submit an NOC from their employer at the time of registration.

Reservation of Seats

Reservation of seats under different categories will be as per Odisha State Government norms issued from time to time.

Application Fee

Candidates must deposit an application fee of Rs.2,000 in the University’s SBI Account No. 11312175579, IFSC Code ISBN0000101. The payment receipt must be enclosed with the hard copy of the application form.

Selection Process

1. Candidates with a valid JRF (JRF prior to 2024, or of 2024): selection is based on personal interview only.
2. JRF of 2024 candidates may also apply with their UGC-NET-2024 score, along with Category 2 & 3 candidates, where both NET score (70%) and personal interview score (30%) form the selection criteria.
3. For Category 2 & 3 candidates, 70% weightage is given to the UGC-NET-2024 score and 30% weightage to the interview; PhD admission is based on combined merit of UGC-NET marks and interview/viva-voce marks.

Marks obtained in the UGC-NET by candidates in Category 2 & 3 will be valid for one year for admission into the PhD Programme, from the date of publication of the NET exam result.
