  4. Candidates must bring relevant documents supporting their application to the interview.

Why This Fellowship Targets Two Distinct Research Areas

Since the KNGPRF scheme funds two separate specializations, Pharmaceutical Chemistry under Prof. Ranju Bansal and Pharmacology under Prof. Kanwaljit Chopra, candidates should apply specifically for the specialization matching their M.Pharm background and research interest, as the supervising faculty and evaluation focus differ meaningfully between the two tracks despite the identical fellowship terms.

Understanding the GATE/GPAT Requirement

Since a qualified GATE, GPAT, Ph.D Entrance Test, or equivalent national-level exam is listed as an essential qualification rather than merely desirable, candidates without any such qualification should note they are not eligible to apply for this particular fellowship, regardless of their academic marks in B.Pharm and M.Pharm.

What a Fixed Two-Year, Non-Renewable Fellowship Means

Unlike many project-based fellowships that extend based on continued project funding, the KNGPRF emoluments are explicitly capped at 2 years, meaning selected Research Fellows should plan their Ph.D. research timeline and any subsequent funding transition (such as institutional or other external fellowships) with this fixed duration in mind from the outset.

About UIPS, Panjab University

The University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Panjab University, Chandigarh, established in 1944, is a UGC Centre of Advanced Study (UGC-CAS) and one of India’s leading pharmaceutical sciences institutions. The Kidar Nath Gaind Pharma Research Fellowship supports doctoral research in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmacology, contributing to UIPS’s long-standing research legacy in drug discovery and pharmacological sciences.

Why the KNGPRF Name Carries Institutional Weight

The Kidar Nath Gaind Pharma Research Fellowship is named in honour of a distinguished figure associated with pharmaceutical education at Panjab University, and fellowships bearing such named endowments often carry additional institutional visibility and networking value for Ph.D. scholars beyond the fellowship’s monetary terms, making this a reputationally significant opportunity within India’s pharmaceutical research community.

Preparing a Competitive Application

Since evaluation explicitly weighs GATE/GPAT score alongside academic marks and publication record, candidates should compile a clear, well-organized CV listing their exact B.Pharm and M.Pharm percentages, GATE/GPAT score and year, and any publications, conference presentations, or patents, ensuring the Selection Committee can quickly assess their competitiveness against the stated evaluation criteria before the 25 September 2026 deadline.

What Doctoral Research Under an Established Fellowship Offers

Beyond the monthly stipend, a named fellowship such as KNGPRF typically comes with access to well-equipped pharmaceutical research laboratories, mentorship from senior faculty with strong publication records, and the institutional backing of a UGC Centre of Advanced Study, all of which meaningfully shape the quality and visibility of the doctoral work a Research Fellow is able to produce over their tenure.

Choosing Between the Two Specializations

Candidates torn between Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmacology should base their decision on genuine research fit rather than perceived ease of selection, reviewing the recent publications and ongoing projects of Prof. Ranju Bansal and Prof. Kanwaljit Chopra respectively to identify which specialization better aligns with their own M.Pharm training and long-term research interests before applying.

Final Word

Eligible B.Pharm/M.Pharm candidates with a qualifying GATE/GPAT/national entrance test score should send their application and CV to the UIPS Chairperson’s office, by email or post, on or before 25 September 2026.
