Tips for Candidates Applying to This Recruitment

  • Candidates should verify their exact Gram Sabha or Ward carefully before applying, since applications from a village or ward other than the one where the vacancy exists will not be considered valid, regardless of proximity.
  • Since age is determined strictly from the High School (10th) mark sheet or certificate, candidates should ensure this document is readily available and that the date of birth recorded on it is accurate.
  • Widowed and deserted candidates should gather their legal court orders, family register copies, and Gram Panchayat/Nagar Palika-issued certificates well in advance, since these directly determine their priority ranking in the selection process.
  • All document scans, including photographs, should be clean, legible and self-attested, since the notice explicitly warns that only applications with all specified certificates properly attached will be considered for scrutiny.

About This Recruitment

Anganwadi Sahayikas serve as essential support staff at Anganwadi Centres under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme, assisting Anganwadi Karyakartris with supplementary nutrition preparation and distribution, maintaining cleanliness of the centre, and supporting pre-school activities for children. This large, 307-post recruitment drive across Kanpur Nagar’s 10 rural blocks and 2 urban city zones reflects the scale of ICDS staffing requirements in one of Uttar Pradesh’s most populous districts. Since the priority order explicitly favours widowed and deserted BPL women first, this recruitment also functions as an important social welfare support mechanism for economically vulnerable women within their own local communities, consistent with the residency-based, hyper-local eligibility structure that governs Anganwadi worker and helper recruitment across Uttar Pradesh.

Role of an Anganwadi Sahayika

An Anganwadi Sahayika works as a support helper alongside the Anganwadi Karyakartri (Anganwadi Worker) at every Anganwadi Centre under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme, a role that, while designated as “helper,” is essential to the day-to-day functioning of the centre. Typical responsibilities include assisting in the preparation and distribution of supplementary nutrition (Take Home Ration and hot cooked meals) to children under six years and pregnant/lactating mothers, maintaining cleanliness and hygiene of the Anganwadi premises and utensils, helping with basic pre-school activities and outdoor play sessions for children, and supporting the Anganwadi Karyakartri during health check-up camps and immunisation drives conducted at the centre. Since this is a grassroots-level community role, the eligibility framework deliberately restricts applications to women residing within the same Gram Sabha or Ward served by the specific Anganwadi Centre, ensuring the selected Sahayika has an existing familiarity with and trust from the local community she will serve.

Why the Priority Order Matters

The structured priority order used in this recruitment, placing widowed and deserted BPL (Below Poverty Line) women ahead of other categories, reflects the broader social welfare objective embedded within Anganwadi staff recruitment across Uttar Pradesh. Since Anganwadi Sahayika honorarium-based positions provide a modest but steady source of income along with meaningful community engagement, prioritizing economically vulnerable women, particularly widows and women deserted by their husbands within the below-poverty-line bracket, helps channel this employment opportunity toward those with the greatest financial need, while still maintaining the same core educational and residency eligibility standards for all applicants regardless of their priority category.
