Along with the fixed or regular pay, selected Municipal Engineers also become eligible for other standard allowances and benefits applicable to Gujarat Government Class-3 employees once their probation period is completed satisfactorily.
Selection Process
Selection for Municipal Engineer, Class-3 is based on a single-stage competitive written examination.
- Computer Based Response Test (CBRT/OMR): A Multiple Choice Question exam divided into Part-A and Part-B, held together in one sitting.
- Part-A (90 marks, 80 questions): Covers Logical Reasoning & Data Interpretation, Quantitative Aptitude, and Indian Constitution, Current Affairs, Gujarati and English Comprehension, 30 marks each.
- Part-B (120 marks, 120 questions): Covers subject-specific Civil Engineering questions relevant to the post.
- Document Verification: Candidates are called for document verification in a ratio based on the number of vacancies, after the provisional merit list based on Part-A and Part-B scores.
The exam carries a total of 200 questions across both parts, with a combined duration of 3 hours. There is negative marking of 1/4th mark for every wrong answer, and candidates must score at least 40% separately in both Part-A and Part-B to qualify. The exam is tentatively expected to be held around January 2027, and candidates should keep checking the official GSSSB website for the confirmed date.

Why You Should Apply
A Municipal Engineer post under GSSSB offers Civil Engineering graduates in Gujarat a stable Class-3 government job with a clear pay scale, regular increments, and long-term career security within the Urban Development Department. This is one of the most relevant technical recruitment opportunities for Gujarat’s engineering graduates this year.
Since municipal engineering roles involve real infrastructure work, from roads and drainage to urban planning projects, this job offers hands-on technical exposure along with the stability of a government post. With 50 vacancies open in a single recruitment cycle and a refundable exam fee for candidates who appear, this is a genuinely accessible opportunity worth applying for if you meet the eligibility criteria.
Preparation Tips
- Revise core Civil Engineering subjects thoroughly, since Part-B carries the highest weightage in the exam.
- Practice Logical Reasoning, Data Interpretation and Quantitative Aptitude questions regularly for Part-A.
- Stay updated on the Indian Constitution and current affairs, along with Gujarati and English comprehension practice.
- Since there is negative marking, attempt only those questions you are reasonably confident about.
- Download the detailed syllabus from the official GSSSB website and structure your preparation around it.
- Keep your educational and category certificates ready well before the document verification stage.
Since both Part-A and Part-B have separate qualifying marks, don’t neglect either section during your preparation. A strong score in only one part will not be enough to clear this exam.
