Who Can Apply

Any Indian citizen who meets the age and education criteria can apply for these posts. You must be of good character, sound health and free from any physical defect that could affect your work.

You should also be able to speak, read and write Odia, and you must have passed an Odia language test equal to the M.E. standard. If you are married, you must not have more than one spouse living, unless the government has given an exemption in your specific case.

Educational Qualification

The basic qualification is the same for both posts, with one extra requirement for Stenographer Grade-III.

  • You must have passed at least a +3 (graduation) examination, or an equivalent qualification, from a recognised university.
  • You must hold a Diploma in Computer Application (DCA) from a recognised institute.
  • For Stenographer Grade-III, you also need a minimum speed of 80 words per minute in Shorthand and 40 words per minute in Typewriting.

The typing test for the Stenographer post will be conducted only through a computer system, and only in the English language. So if you are applying for this post, practice your typing speed on a computer keyboard rather than a traditional typewriter.

Age Limit

Your age should be above 18 years and below 42 years as on 17 August 2026, which is the last date for receiving applications. This age limit applies to the general category.

Candidates belonging to reserved categories such as SC, ST and SEBC get the usual age relaxation as per the rules that apply to their category. This relaxation follows the standard government orders issued from time to time, so check the latest rules applicable to your category before applying.

Application Fee

There is no examination fee for this recruitment. You do not need to pay any amount while sending your application. This makes the process cost-free for every applicant.

However, you do need to attach two self-addressed envelopes with Rs. 60 Speed Post stamps affixed on each. These envelopes are used by the office to send your call letter, so make sure the stamps are sufficient, or you may not receive your exam intimation on time.

Salary

The pay for these posts depends on which position you are selected for.

Post
Pay Scale
Junior Clerk-cum-Copyist
Rs. 19,900 – Rs. 63,200 (Level-4)
Stenographer Grade-III
Rs. 25,500 – Rs. 81,100 (Level-7)

Along with this basic pay, selected candidates also get usual dearness allowance and other allowances as fixed by the government from time to time. The Stenographer post carries a higher pay scale, since it requires additional shorthand and typing skills.

Selection Process

The selection process for this recruitment has multiple stages, so preparation is important at every step.

  1. Career Merit List: A merit list is prepared based on your combined percentage of marks in HSC, +2 and +3 examinations. Candidates up to 20 times the actual vacancy in each category are shortlisted for the written exam.
  2. Written Examination: For Junior Clerk, this includes English, Arithmetic and General Knowledge, each of 100 marks. For Stenographer, English is a qualifying paper of 100 marks.
  3. Practical Tests: Junior Clerk candidates take a Computer Science practical test of 100 marks. Stenographer candidates first take a Shorthand and Typewriting test of 50 marks, followed by a Computer Science practical test of 100 marks.
  4. Viva-Voce: Junior Clerk candidates who clear the earlier stages appear for a Viva-Voce of 45 marks. Stenographer candidates appear for a Viva-Voce of 35 marks.

Each stage acts as a filter, so only candidates who clear one stage move to the next.

Documents Required

Attach self-attested copies of the following documents along with your application. Keep the originals ready too for future verification.

  • One self-signed passport photo affixed on the form, plus three more self-signed photos, each with your full signature on the lower front portion
  • Certificates and mark sheets of HSC, +2 and +3 examinations

  • Caste certificate, for SEBC/SC/ST candidates

Why You Should Apply

A job under the District Judiciary comes with strong job security and a respected government identity. Court staff positions are known for stability, structured working hours and steady career growth over the years.

Since there is no application fee and the process is fairly transparent, this is a good opportunity for graduates with computer knowledge, and especially for those with shorthand and typing skills looking for a Stenographer role.

Preparation Tips

  • Revise basic Arithmetic topics like percentages, profit and loss, and simple interest for the Junior Clerk written exam.
  • Read newspapers regularly to strengthen your General Knowledge section.
  • Practice English essay writing, letter writing and translation between English and Odia.
  • If applying for Stenographer, practice shorthand dictation and typing speed daily on a computer keyboard.
  • Get comfortable with basic computer tasks like formatting documents, using email and handling spreadsheets, since a practical computer test is part of the selection.
  • Prepare confidently for the viva-voce by staying updated on general topics and current events.

Consistent daily practice for typing and shorthand makes a real difference for the Stenographer post. For the Junior Clerk post, balanced preparation across English, Arithmetic and General Knowledge will help you clear the written stage comfortably.
