About Yudhistir Mishra Law College

Yudhistir Mishra Law College, earlier known as Balangir Law College, is a permanently recognised law college in Balangir, Odisha. It is approved by the Bar Council of India, New Delhi, and affiliated to M.S. Law University, Cuttack. The college offers legal education under the framework of UGC Regulations for teachers and academic staff, and the Bar Council of India Rules of Legal Education, 2008. This recruitment for Principal and Assistant Professor is meant to strengthen the college’s academic leadership and teaching staff.

Documents to Keep Ready

Candidates should keep self-attested copies of their educational certificates and mark sheets, Ph.D. degree certificate (for Principal, or for Assistant Professor candidates claiming NET exemption), NET/SLET/SET certificate (where applicable), proof of teaching or research experience, list of research publications, and category certificate (if claiming any relaxation) ready before sending the application. Since the application goes by post and not online, it is a good idea to send it well before the last date, so that any postal delay does not cause the application to miss the deadline.

Role of the Principal at a Law College

The Principal of a law college is not just a senior teaching post. The selected candidate will act as a Regular Principal, responsible for academic leadership, day-to-day administration, keeping up academic standards, and ensuring the college follows the rules of the affiliating University, the UGC, and the Bar Council of India. This is why the eligibility bar for Principal is set much higher than for Assistant Professor, requiring both a strong research record and long experience in higher education.

Understanding the Research Score Requirement

For the post of Principal, the college asks for a Research Score of at least 110, calculated as per UGC criteria. This score is a way of measuring a candidate’s academic output over the years, based on research papers, books, project work, and other approved academic activities, converted into points using a formula set by the UGC. Candidates aiming for the Principal post should check their own accumulated score under the UGC scheme well before applying, since this is a fixed numeric requirement and not something that can be substituted by experience alone.
