What the Role of Pashudhan Prasar Adhikari Involves
A Pashudhan Prasar Adhikari, or Livestock Extension Officer, works at the grassroots level of Uttar Pradesh’s animal husbandry administration, bridging the gap between the state’s veterinary/livestock development programmes and the farmers who depend on livestock for their livelihood. Typical responsibilities include promoting scientific animal rearing practices, assisting with artificial insemination and breed improvement programmes, guiding farmers on dairy management, poultry farming and animal nutrition, supporting disease surveillance and vaccination drives, and helping farmers access government livestock welfare schemes. This is reflected directly in the Main Examination’s Part-1 subject list, which mirrors the day-to-day technical knowledge – from animal anatomy and nutrition to livestock economics and field extension work – that the role demands on the ground.
Why the Exam Includes UP State General Knowledge
The inclusion of a dedicated 20-mark section on Uttar Pradesh State General Knowledge, alongside the core animal husbandry subject matter and a Computer/IT section, reflects UPSSSC’s standard examination pattern across many of its subordinate service posts, not something unique to this particular recruitment. Since a Pashudhan Prasar Adhikari works directly within local communities across the state, testing candidates on the state’s geography, economy, culture and current affairs is intended to ensure officers joining the department have a working familiarity with the regional context they will operate in, alongside their core technical competence in animal husbandry and extension work.
