About the Advisor Engagement Scheme

SAIL’s Advisor engagement scheme allows the organization to re-engage the specialized skills and institutional knowledge of its own retired executives to bridge critical gaps in operational and functional activities. This particular notification covers positions at Durgapur Steel Plant across Projects, Town Engineering (Electrical and Water Supply), and at Alloy Steels Plant across SMS & Mills Planning and Crane Maintenance, reflecting specific technical areas where SAIL currently needs experienced advisory support.

Why SAIL Turns to Ex-Executives for Advisory Roles

Re-engaging former executives as Advisors allows SAIL to draw on decades of plant-specific operational knowledge, familiarity with legacy infrastructure like high-diameter water pipelines and high-voltage transmission systems, and established working relationships with contractors and internal departments, all of which take years to build and are difficult to replicate quickly through fresh hiring. This approach is particularly valuable for specialized, experience-heavy roles like Projects Site Execution and Crane Maintenance, where the Advisor’s role is explicitly to guide and handhold currently serving executives during critical project phases rather than perform routine operational duties themselves.

Understanding the Grade-wise Remuneration Structure

The remuneration structure, ranging from Rs. 50,000 per month for E-1 to E-3 retirees up to Rs. 1,00,000 per month for E-7 retirees, is directly tied to the grade held by the candidate at the time of their original separation from SAIL, not to the specific department or post they are now applying for as Advisor. This means two Advisors working in different departments but who retired at the same grade would receive identical monthly remuneration, while the specific responsibilities and reporting structure vary according to the department they are engaged in.

Final Word

Eligible ex-SAIL executives interested in Advisor positions across Projects, Town Engineering-Electrical, Town Engineering-Water Supply Services (for DSP), or SMS & Mills Planning and Crane Maintenance (for ASP) should submit their completed application, along with the separation order issued by SAIL, by post or email to the GM (HR-OD) office at Durgapur Steel Plant before 19 September 2026.

A Note on the Discrepancy in Advisor Numbers

As noted above, while the notification’s opening paragraph states that SAIL seeks to engage 4 Advisors for DSP, the detailed department-wise table for DSP lists only 3 specific posts (Projects Site Execution, Town Engineering-Electrical, and Town Engineering-Water Supply Services), each requiring 1 Advisor. Interested candidates are advised to verify the exact current department-wise requirement by referring to the official notification directly or contacting the HR-OD office at Durgapur Steel Plant before finalizing their application, since this article presents the information exactly as available in the source notification without adding or assuming any additional department.

Confidentiality and Conflict-of-Interest Obligations

Given the sensitive, plant-specific technical knowledge that Advisors bring to SAIL, the notification places strong emphasis on confidentiality: engaged Advisors are barred from associating, in any capacity, with any competitive firm, company, or organization during their engagement, and must maintain confidentiality of any information, data, or technology they access, even after the engagement ends. Candidates considering this opportunity should be aware that these obligations are not merely formal but are actively enforced, and any breach could affect both the engagement itself and the Advisor’s standing with SAIL going forward.
