About This Recruitment
The Punjab Vidhan Sabha (Punjab Legislative Assembly) Secretariat periodically recruits support staff, including Chowkidar (security watch staff) and Safai Sevak (sanitation staff), to maintain the day-to-day security and cleanliness of its premises in Chandigarh. Such Group-D level positions are entry-level Central Pay Commission (7th CPC) posts that come with the long-term job security, pay-scale progression, and service benefits associated with a Punjab Government/Legislature secretariat appointment. Given the modest number of vacancies (only 7 posts across both categories) and the minimal educational requirement (10th pass for Chowkidar, no formal qualification for Safai Sevak), this recruitment offers an accessible government job opportunity, particularly for candidates from Chandigarh and the surrounding Punjab region who meet the age and eligibility criteria.
Since selection may involve a written test, Punjabi qualifying test, or skilled test-cum-interview at the discretion of the Selection Committee, candidates are advised to keep checking the Punjab Vidhan Sabha Secretariat website regularly after applying, both for updates on the selection process and for the release of the online admit card once the application window closes.
Documents to Keep Ready Before Applying
- Scanned copy of the 10th standard mark sheet/certificate (mandatory for Chowkidar post applicants)
- Proof of date of birth (10th standard certificate or birth certificate)
- Caste certificate, if applying under SC/ST/BC category for fee concession, in the format prescribed by the Punjab Government
- Recent passport-size photograph and scanned signature, in the format specified on the application portal
- Valid ID proof such as Aadhaar Card
- No Objection Certificate (NOC) from current employer, if already in government service
Why This Recruitment Matters
Group-D support staff positions such as Chowkidar and Safai Sevak form the backbone of the day-to-day upkeep and security of a state legislative secretariat’s premises. A Chowkidar is responsible for watch-and-ward duties, ensuring the security of the Vidhan Sabha Secretariat’s buildings and assets, while a Safai Sevak maintains cleanliness and sanitation across the premises – both essential, continuous functions that support the smooth functioning of the legislature’s day-to-day administrative operations. Because these are permanent Group-D Central Pay Commission posts under a state legislature secretariat rather than contractual or outsourced roles, selected candidates gain the long-term job security, defined pay-scale progression under Level-1 of the 7th CPC, and service benefits associated with a formal government appointment – benefits that are often not available in similar private-sector housekeeping or security roles.
Given that only 7 posts are being filled in this recruitment cycle and the eligibility bar is comparatively low (10th pass or no formal qualification), competition for these positions is likely to be significant among eligible candidates across Punjab and the Chandigarh region. Candidates who meet the age and educational criteria are encouraged to apply well before the 27 August 2026 deadline and to keep their required documents – photograph, signature, educational certificates, and caste certificate where applicable – ready in the exact scanned format specified by the online application portal, since applications with formatting errors or missing uploads are liable to be rejected without further correspondence.

Tips for a Strong Application
- Register only one online application – Punjab Vidhan Sabha’s guidelines caution that each candidate should fill only one online application form, and any attempt to upload false or duplicate applications, or illegal photographs, may lead to legal action.
- Use a valid, actively monitored email account and mobile number, as all future correspondence regarding admit cards, test schedules, and results will be sent through the registered email ID and mobile number provided in the application.
- Prepare a recent, colour, passport-size photograph with a light background, taken with a relaxed expression and no dark glasses or headwear that obscures facial features, and a clear signature scanned in black or blue ink on white paper, since these images are used for identity verification at every stage of the process.
- Apply well before the closing date rather than waiting until the last day, since heavy web traffic close to the deadline can make it difficult to complete and submit the form in time.
- Keep a printed copy of the submitted application form for personal records, as it may be required for reference during document verification or the selection process.
