About the DD News Correspondent Role

The DD News Correspondent based at Chandigarh serves as a key ground-level reporting resource for Doordarshan’s national news operations covering the region, requiring a combination of journalistic skill, bilingual fluency in Hindi and Punjabi, and the ability to independently manage field reporting, live broadcasts, and post-produced content. This role suits experienced journalists already established in broadcast or print media who are looking to transition into a public broadcaster environment with a national reach.

Why the Bilingual Requirement Matters

Since the post is based in Chandigarh and requires proficiency in both Hindi and Punjabi, candidates should note that this bilingual requirement, together with the additional preference for English proficiency, reflects the diverse linguistic audience DD News/DD India serves in the North Indian region, and candidates lacking working fluency in Punjabi may find themselves at a disadvantage compared to other applicants during the interview process.

Understanding the Consolidated Remuneration Range

With a remuneration band of Rs. 60,000 to Rs. 80,000 described as negotiable, candidates with more extensive experience beyond the minimum 5-year requirement, additional specialized skills such as video editing or multimedia production, or a demonstrated track record of high-profile ground reporting may be able to negotiate toward the higher end of this range during the selection process.

Why a Public Broadcaster Correspondent Role Differs from Private Media

Working as a DD News Correspondent places a journalist within India’s public broadcasting mandate, which carries a distinct editorial responsibility toward balanced, region-representative reporting compared to the commercial pressures typical of private news channels. Candidates who have primarily worked in private television or digital news should be prepared for a different institutional culture at Prasar Bharati, one shaped by public-service broadcasting norms and government administrative processes, including the documentation and approval procedures reflected in this very notice.

Preparing a Strong Application Given the Documentation Requirements

Since candidates are required to upload complete and clear copies of all requested documents, with incomplete candidature rejected without any intimation, applicants should compile scanned copies of their Journalism/Mass Communication degree or diploma certificate, experience letters clearly documenting at least 5 years in the relevant field, and any proof of bilingual Hindi-Punjabi proficiency (such as prior on-air work samples) before beginning the online submission on the Prasar Bharati portal.

What the One-Month Notice Clause Means for Applicants

The clause allowing either party to discontinue the engagement with one month’s notice or one month’s salary in lieu means that while the contract nominally runs for one year, candidates should treat this less like a guaranteed year-long assignment and more like an ongoing performance-based engagement, where consistent quality reporting and adherence to editorial and administrative expectations will be important for securing the annual appraisal-based extension.

Final Word

Experienced journalists with a Journalism/Mass Communication qualification, bilingual Hindi-Punjabi proficiency, and at least 5 years of relevant experience, who are below 40 years of age, should apply online at https://avedan.prasarbharati.org within 15 days from the date of publication of this notice for the DD News Correspondent post at Chandigarh. Since applications are accepted only through the official online portal, candidates should avoid any third-party agents or unofficial channels claiming to assist with submission on Prasar Bharati’s behalf.

Career Value of Public Broadcasting Experience

Serving as a Correspondent for DD News/DD India offers journalists an opportunity to build a national broadcasting profile while contributing to public-interest journalism, which can be a valuable credential when later pursuing senior editorial or bureau-chief roles across the broadcast industry. Given that this role covers reporting across India and abroad rather than being confined only to regional coverage, successful candidates gain broader exposure than a typical regional correspondent position at a private channel.
