About This Recruitment

PGIMER Chandigarh is one of India’s premier medical institutes, and this recruitment drive brings in 60 posts spanning Group ‘A’ medical and technical staff to Group ‘C’ support staff, both at its main Chandigarh campus and its satellite centre in Sangrur, Punjab. With 54 of the 57 Chandigarh posts being Multi Tasking Staff (Sanitation) Grade-III alone, this notification is particularly significant for candidates with a Matriculation-level qualification seeking entry into a reputed central government medical institution.

Why the Selection Process Differs by Group

Since Group ‘A’ posts like Medical Officer carry higher responsibility and require specialized clinical judgment, the Government of India mandates an interview stage worth 15 marks in addition to the CBT for these posts. For Group ‘B’ and ‘C’ posts, however, the Government of India has dispensed with the interview altogether, meaning candidates for posts like Computer Programmer, Pharmacist, Library Attendant, Animal Attendant, Barber and Multi Tasking Staff will be selected purely on their CBT performance, making thorough preparation for the objective-type Computer Based Test the single most important factor for these candidates.

Preparing for the Computer Based Test

Since the CBT for Group ‘B’ and ‘C’ posts carries 100 objective-type questions with negative marking of 0.25 marks per wrong answer, candidates should be careful about guessing and instead focus on attempting only those questions they are reasonably confident about. Given the sheer number of Multi Tasking Staff vacancies (54 out of 57 at Chandigarh alone), and the fact that shortlisting for posts without a skill test allows for only 3 times the vacancy count to advance, candidates should aim to clear the minimum qualifying percentage with a comfortable margin rather than just meeting the bare minimum, since competition among such a large number of applicants for a fixed answer-key based test can be intense.

PGI Satellite Centre, Sangrur – A Distinct Set of Posts

Unlike the 57 Chandigarh vacancies, which are entirely Group ‘C’ and heavily weighted toward Multi Tasking Staff, the 3 posts for PGI Satellite Centre, Sangrur span all three groups – a Group ‘A’ Medical Officer, a Group ‘B’ Computer Programmer, and a Group ‘C’ Pharmacist. These posts were created by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare specifically for the Sangrur Satellite Centre, and candidates should note that selection for these posts commits them to serving at Sangrur, Punjab, rather than at the main Chandigarh campus, since the Ministry has made clear there is no automatic right to a Chandigarh posting from this recruitment.
