About This Recruitment
The Nabarangpur Collectorate, under its ST & SC Development, Minorities & Backward Classes Welfare Section, is filling 18 Guest Teacher (PGT-level) positions across Physics, Mathematics, Odia, English, Zoology and Botany at Higher Secondary Schools functioning under the department in the district. With Mathematics and Odia carrying the highest number of vacancies (5 each), this recruitment offers postgraduate candidates, including retired teachers up to 65 years and other eligible candidates up to 62 years, a meaningful teaching engagement at Higher Secondary level in a tribal-welfare-focused school network.
Why Retired Teachers Are Explicitly Eligible
Unlike most guest teacher recruitments that target only younger, currently active candidates, this notice explicitly invites retired teachers up to 65 years of age alongside other eligible candidates up to 62 years, reflecting the ST & SC Development Department’s practical approach to quickly filling vacant Higher Secondary teaching posts with experienced educators. Given the postal-only application mode and the merit list’s heavy weightage on academic performance (70 marks) over training (30 marks), retired teachers with strong academic records and prior teaching experience may find themselves competitively placed against fresh B.Ed. graduates for these positions.
Understanding the Honorarium Structure
Since Guest Teachers are paid on a per-class/period basis (Rs. 400/- per class) rather than a fixed monthly salary, actual monthly earnings will depend directly on the number of classes/periods assigned as per the school time table, up to the capped maximum of Rs. 16,000/- per month. Candidates should understand that this is fundamentally different from a salaried teaching position, and actual income may vary from month to month depending on the school’s specific timetable requirements and student strength in the subject taught.
Preparing a Complete Postal Application
Given that applications are accepted only through Registered Post or Speed Post, with no online or in-person submission option, candidates should mail their applications well ahead of the 17 September 2026 deadline to account for postal transit time, since only applications physically received at the District Welfare Office by the stipulated date and time will be considered. Candidates should also ensure all self-attested copies of educational qualification certificates, training certificates (B.Ed., where applicable), and age proof are included with the application, as incomplete submissions risk being set aside during the initial screening before the certificate verification stage.
About the ST & SC Development Department’s School Network
Higher Secondary Schools functioning under the ST & SC Development, Minorities & Backward Classes Welfare Department serve tribal and other marginalized student communities across Odisha’s districts, including Nabarangpur, which has a significant Scheduled Tribe population. Filling teaching vacancies promptly through Guest Teacher engagements, as done through this notice, helps ensure continuity of quality education for XI and XII standard students in core subjects like Physics, Mathematics and language subjects, even while the department works through longer-term regular recruitment processes for permanent teaching cadre positions.
Choosing the Right Subject to Apply For
Candidates holding a postgraduate degree in more than one eligible subject area should apply only for the subject matching their strongest academic record, since the merit list places heavy weightage (70 marks) on academic performance, meaning the aggregate percentage in the specific subject’s postgraduate degree will directly determine competitiveness against other applicants for that same subject. Given that Mathematics and Odia together account for 10 of the 18 total vacancies, candidates qualified in these two subjects may find comparatively better odds than those competing for the single-vacancy Physics or Zoology posts.
A Final Word
Interested and eligible candidates should prepare their documents and mail their applications well before the 17 September 2026 deadline.
