About This Recruitment

The Kerala High Court is filling the single post of Registrar (Protocol & Security Control), a senior term-appointment role requiring a distinctive combination of military leadership background (Major rank or above) and protocol/public relations expertise. With a substantial pay scale of Rs. 1,23,700-1,66,800, this recruitment reflects the High Court’s need for an experienced ex-serviceman capable of managing security and protocol functions for one of India’s High Courts.

Understanding the Term Appointment Structure

Unlike most High Court recruitment for regular cadre posts, this Registrar (Protocol & Security Control) role is explicitly a term appointment, initially for 3 years and extendable up to 5 years subject to suitability, rather than a permanent, pensionable government position. Candidates should factor this fixed-term nature into their career planning, particularly given the relatively narrow eligible age band (born between 02 January 1971 and 01 January 1991), which suggests the High Court is seeking candidates with substantial prior military service already completed, likely at or near retirement from active service.

Why Interview-Only Selection Makes Sense for This Role

Unlike most Kerala High Court recruitment processes, which typically involve a written examination stage, this Registrar (Protocol & Security Control) recruitment relies solely on an interview for final selection, reflecting the nature of the role itself, which depends heavily on demonstrated leadership experience, protocol management judgment, and liaison skills rather than subject-matter knowledge that can be tested through a written paper. Given that eligible candidates already hold a Major-rank or higher military background, the High Court appears to be prioritizing direct assessment of practical protocol and security management capability during the interview, along with the additional marks it may award for relevant experience, qualifications, and prior recognition or awards.

Preparing a Strong Application

Given that the High Court explicitly allows additional marks for experience, protocol/liaison management exposure, and awards received for excellence, candidates should ensure their application clearly documents any specific instances of protocol coordination, VIP security management, or ceremonial/diplomatic liaison work undertaken during their military service, rather than listing only general service history. Since original documents must be produced only when called for, candidates should nonetheless organize their service records, degree certificates, and any protocol-related commendations well in advance, to avoid delays if shortlisted for the interview stage.

The Role of Protocol and Security at a High Court

A High Court’s Registrar (Protocol & Security Control) is responsible for coordinating the reception and movement of dignitaries, judges, and official visitors, as well as overseeing the broader physical security arrangements within the court premises, a function that combines ceremonial protocol expertise with genuine security management responsibility. This dual mandate explains why the High Court has specifically sought candidates with a substantial military leadership background, since Major-rank officers typically bring both structured command experience and, in many cases, direct exposure to protocol coordination for senior dignitaries during their service career.

A Note on the Fixed Age Window

Candidates should note that the eligible age band, being born between 02 January 1971 and 01 January 1991, places likely applicants roughly between their mid-30s and mid-50s as of 2026, a range consistent with officers who have completed a full career of Indian Army service up to and including Major rank, and are now transitioning to civilian government employment. Candidates just outside this specific date range, even by a small margin, will not be eligible regardless of their qualifications or experience, so verifying one’s exact date of birth against the notified window before beginning the application process is an essential first step.

Final Reminder

Eligible ex-servicemen interested in this senior term appointment should complete the One Time Registration and online application well before the 03 October 2026 closing date.
