ISRO Assistant, UDC, JPA and Stenographer Recruitment 2026: Apply Online for 242 Posts
Looking for a government job this year? A new recruitment notification has been released by the Indian Space Research Organisation. This recruitment offers 242 vacancies for the posts of Assistant, Junior Personal Assistant, Upper Division Clerk and Stenographer. Candidates from across India can apply, since the posts are spread over several ISRO centres. Before filling the application form, check the eligibility, salary, age limit and selection process explained below.
ISRO is one of the most respected organisations in India, known for its work in space science and satellite technology. Even though this recruitment is for administrative support posts, working at ISRO gives you a chance to be part of the country’s space mission in a stable government role.
ISRO Assistant, UDC, JPA and Stenographer Recruitment 2026 – Highlights
This table gives you a quick summary of the whole recruitment. Out of 242 posts, 150 are for Assistants and Upper Division Clerks, and 92 are for Junior Personal Assistants and Stenographers. These posts are spread across eight ISRO centres, including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Hassan, Hyderabad, Mahendragiri, New Delhi, Sriharikota and Thiruvananthapuram.
Bengaluru and Sriharikota have the highest number of vacancies among all the zones, so candidates open to relocating to these locations may find better chances. Still, check the zone-wise numbers carefully before deciding where to apply.
Who Can Apply
Graduates who meet the required marks and computer proficiency criteria can apply for Assistant and UDC posts. For Junior Personal Assistant and Stenographer posts, candidates need either a graduate degree or a diploma in commercial or secretarial practice, along with stenography experience and typing speed.
Since ISRO has specifically encouraged women candidates to apply for these posts, this is a good opportunity for women looking to build a stable government career in a scientific organisation.
Educational Qualification
The qualification requirement is different for the two groups of posts.
- Assistants and UDC (Post No. 1, 3, 5): Graduation with at least 60% marks or a CGPA of 6.32 on a 10-point scale, completed within the minimum course duration, along with proficiency in computer use.
- Junior Personal Assistant and Stenographer (Post No. 2, 4, 6): Graduation with the same 60% marks/CGPA criteria, OR a Diploma in Commercial/Secretarial Practice with the same marks criteria. Along with this, you need 1 year of experience as a Steno-Typist or Stenographer, a minimum speed of 60 words per minute in English Stenography, and computer proficiency.
If your Diploma is in Commercial Practice or Commercial and Computer Practice, an Apprenticeship Training Certificate from the Board of Apprenticeship Training can be counted as equal to 1 year of stenography experience. Also, if your degree certificate shows only a CGPA, that CGPA itself must meet ISRO’s eligibility criteria, since conversion into a percentage is not allowed.
Age Limit
Your age should not exceed 28 years as on 16 August 2026, which is the closing date of registration.
This limit is relaxed to 31 years for OBC candidates and 33 years for SC/ST candidates, wherever posts are reserved for these categories. Additional age relaxation is also available for serving government employees, Ex-servicemen, Persons with Benchmark Disabilities, meritorious sportspersons, and widows, divorced women or judicially separated women who have not remarried, as per standard Government of India rules.
Application Fee
The fee structure for this recruitment works a little differently from most other government exams.
- The actual application fee is Rs. 100 for all posts.
- However, every candidate must first pay Rs. 500 as a processing fee at the time of applying.
This processing fee is refunded later, but only to candidates who actually appear for the Written Test. Women, SC/ST, PwBD and Ex-servicemen candidates, who are exempted from the application fee, get the full Rs. 500 refunded. All other candidates get Rs. 400 back, since Rs. 100 is deducted as their actual application fee.
Salary
Selected candidates will be placed in Level 4 of the Pay Matrix, with a minimum basic pay of Rs. 25,500 per month.
Along with this basic pay, employees also get Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance and Transport Allowance as per applicable rules. Other benefits include coverage under the New Pension Scheme, medical facilities, a subsidised canteen, limited quarters facility, Leave Travel Concession, Group Insurance and House Building Advance, similar to other central government departments.
Selection Process
The notification confirms that candidates will be selected through a Written Test. Details about the exact test pattern, subjects and marks distribution have not been given in this short notice.
Since the processing fee refund is directly linked to appearing in the Written Test, it is clear that this test forms an important part of the selection process. Candidates are advised to keep checking the ISRO website for further details on the test structure once released.
Documents Required
The exact list of documents has not been specified in this notice. Based on standard ISRO recruitment practice, candidates should keep the following ready in scanned form for the online application, and in original for later verification.
- Graduation or Diploma certificate and mark sheets
- Computer proficiency proof, if applicable
- Stenography experience certificate, for JPA/Stenographer posts
- Category certificate, if claiming reservation benefits
- Age proof and photo identity document
Since the complete document checklist is expected to be published along with the detailed application form, keep monitoring the official ISRO website for the confirmed list.
Important Dates
Apply well before the closing date to avoid any last-minute technical issues on the ISRO website. Since this is a high-demand recruitment, expect heavy website traffic close to the deadline.
How to Apply
Follow these steps to complete your application for this recruitment.
- Visit the official ISRO website at isro.gov.in.
- Go to the Careers or Recruitment section and find this notification.
- Register with your basic details and create your login credentials.
- Fill in your educational, category and experience details carefully.
- Upload your photograph, signature and required documents.

Why You Should Apply
Working at ISRO gives you the pride of contributing to India’s space programme, even in an administrative role. The organisation is known for its stability, structured work culture and strong employee benefits.
With 242 vacancies across multiple locations and a decent starting pay under Level 4, this is a solid opportunity for graduates and diploma holders looking for a secure central government job with long-term growth.
Preparation Tips
- Brush up on general English, reasoning and basic computer knowledge, since these are commonly tested in clerical-level government exams.
- Practice typing and shorthand regularly if you are applying for the Stenographer post, since speed and accuracy both matter.
- Revise your graduation subjects lightly, in case general awareness questions are included in the Written Test.
- Keep your documents, especially your CGPA or percentage proof, ready and clearly understood, since ISRO has strict rules on this.
- Stay updated with ISRO’s official website for the detailed exam pattern once it is released.
- Apply early to avoid last-day website rush and payment issues.
Since the detailed exam pattern is not yet available, build a strong base in general aptitude and computer skills so that you are ready regardless of the final test structure.
