About This Recruitment

The High Court of Punjab and Haryana at Chandigarh maintains a fleet of official vehicles used by judges, officers and staff for court-related travel across Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, and occasionally Delhi. This recruitment adds 25 Drivers to the High Court establishment, filling a role that requires not just a valid licence but genuine, verified driving experience and a clean record, given the responsibility of transporting judicial officers safely.

What This Role Involves

A Driver at the High Court is responsible for the safe and timely transport of officers and staff, often over long distances and sometimes at short notice, given that duty hours may extend to odd hours. Since candidates must produce an experience certificate proving at least 2 years of car-driving experience and must not have any negligent-driving conviction on record, the High Court places clear emphasis on road safety and reliability while selecting for this post.

Preparing for the Practical Test-cum-Interview

Since selection depends entirely on performance in the Practical Test-cum-Interview, candidates should ensure their driving skills are sharp and their documentation is complete well before the test date is announced on the High Court website. Candidates relying on a Military-issued driving licence should especially note that they will need to produce an additional certificate confirming the licence meets the prescribed requirements, so arranging this document early can save time during the verification stage.

Documents to Keep Ready

Since documents are checked only at the testimonials stage or when the High Court calls candidates, it still pays to gather everything early: proof of age and 10+2 qualification, valid LMV driving licence, a genuine 2-year car-driving experience certificate, and caste certificate if claiming reservation. Candidates currently working in Government or Semi-Government offices should also request their No Objection Certificate from their employer well in advance, since failure to produce this document in original at the testimonials stage leads to cancellation of candidature.

Why Experience and a Clean Record Matter Here

Unlike many government posts where a licence alone is enough on paper, this recruitment specifically asks for a genuine 2-year track record of driving a car and a clean history with no negligent-driving conviction. This reflects the nature of the job: a High Court Driver may be entrusted with transporting judicial officers over long routes, sometimes at odd hours, so the emphasis on verified experience and a clean driving record is meant to reduce risk on the road rather than being a mere formality.

Checking Updates Regularly

Since the date of the Practical Test-cum-Interview, along with any corrigendum or additional instructions, will only be notified on the High Court’s official website, candidates should make it a habit to check www.highcourtchd.gov.in regularly after applying, rather than waiting for a separate communication. E-Admit Cards are issued only through the website and by email or SMS, and are not sent by post, so keeping the registered email account, including the spam folder, under regular watch is equally important through the recruitment process.
