About This Recruitment

This walk-in recruitment is for a purely contractual, single-semester teaching engagement in Mathematics under the Department of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science at GBPUAT’s College of Basic Sciences & Humanities. Since the positions are tenable only for the 1st Semester of Academic Year 2026-27, and remuneration is calculated on an hourly basis (capped at a monthly maximum depending on the candidate’s qualification level), this opportunity is best suited to candidates – including Ph.D. holders, NET/SLET-qualified candidates, and Master’s degree holders in Mathematics – looking for short-term teaching experience at a well-established agricultural university, or those seeking to build an academic teaching record ahead of applying for regular faculty positions.

About G B Pant University of Agriculture & Technology

G B Pant University of Agriculture & Technology (GBPUAT), Pantnagar, established in 1960, is recognized as India’s first agricultural university and has played a foundational role in the country’s Green Revolution. The College of Basic Sciences & Humanities within GBPUAT provides the foundational science, mathematics, statistics and humanities coursework that supports the University’s various agricultural, engineering and technology degree programmes, making faculty positions here integral to the broader academic ecosystem of the University even though the College itself is not agriculture-focused in its subject matter.

Understanding the Hourly Remuneration Structure

Unlike a fixed monthly salary, this engagement uses an hourly-rate remuneration model that is fairly common for single-semester contractual teaching positions at Indian agricultural and technical universities. Under this structure, a candidate’s actual monthly earning depends on the number of teaching hours assigned during that semester, subject to the prescribed monthly ceiling of Rs. 30,000/- (for Assistant Professor-eligible candidates) or Rs. 25,000/- (for Master’s degree holders). This model allows the College to flexibly staff courses based on actual semester-wise teaching load in Mathematics, while giving engaged candidates a transparent, hours-based compensation framework rather than a fixed lump-sum contract.

Why Short-Term Teaching Engagements Matter for Academic Careers

For Ph.D. holders, NET/SLET-qualified candidates, and Master’s degree holders in Mathematics who are building an academic career, single-semester contractual teaching positions like this one at GBPUAT serve an important function: they provide genuine classroom teaching experience at a recognized university, which is frequently a prerequisite or a strongly preferred qualification when applying for regular, permanent Assistant Professor positions at agricultural universities, state universities, and other higher education institutions across India. Since GBPUAT is India’s first agricultural university with a long-standing academic reputation, even a single semester of teaching experience at its College of Basic Sciences & Humanities can be a meaningful addition to a candidate’s academic CV, particularly for those early in their teaching careers or transitioning from research-focused roles into full-time academia.

Department of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science at GBPUAT

The Department of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science under the College of Basic Sciences & Humanities is responsible for delivering core quantitative coursework across GBPUAT’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in agriculture, engineering, veterinary science, home science and related disciplines. Mathematics faculty in this department typically teach foundational and applied mathematics courses that support technical and agricultural science curricula, meaning the teaching engagement advertised here would primarily serve students enrolled in GBPUAT’s various degree programmes that require a Mathematics component as part of their broader syllabus, rather than a dedicated Mathematics degree programme alone.

Tips for Candidates Attending the Walk-in Interview

Since this is a direct walk-in interview without a prior online registration or written screening stage, candidates should arrive well before the 10:00 AM interview time to complete any on-the-spot registration formalities and document verification. Candidates are advised to organize their certificates in the same sequence as listed in the bio-data form – High School, Intermediate, Bachelor’s, Master’s, Ph.D., and NET/SLET/GATE (where applicable) – along with clearly labeled teaching experience certificates and copies of published research papers, since the interview panel will typically cross-check claimed qualifications and experience against the submitted documents during the interview itself. Given that the College explicitly reserves the right to adjust the number of positions filled, candidates should treat this walk-in interview as a competitive process based on the strength of their qualifications, teaching experience and publication record relative to other applicants for the same 3 seats.
