  • Should have passed Higher Secondary (12th Standard) or equivalent.
  • Should possess good spoken and written communication skills in English, Hindi, and Malayalam.
  • Preference shall be given to candidates with relevant experience in the port sector.

Additional experience requirement: DMSO requires a minimum of 5 years’ experience as Assistant Marine Foreman/AMSO/Marine Supervisor or similar; MSO requires either 10 years’ experience in such posts, or a minimum of 3 years’ experience as Deputy Marine Foreman/DMSO or similar.

How to Apply

  1. Visit the Online Application Portal (OAP) link published on the Career page of the Cochin Port Authority website (www.cochinport.gov.in).
  2. Register and fill in the online application, mentioning qualification and experience related to Marine operations only.
  3. Upload documentary proof of qualification and experience; incomplete applications will not be considered.
  4. Complete and submit the application on or before 12 October 2026, 5:00 PM.

Selection Process

Selection is based on a weighted evaluation: minimum requisite qualification, additional qualifications/certifications, and relevant experience carry 85% weightage, while the Personal Interview carries the remaining 15%. Applications are shortlisted based on eligibility criteria, higher qualification, and length/range of experience, with shortlisted candidates called for interview and document verification.

Terms and Conditions

  • The contract engagement is for 3 years, likely extendable by 2 more years, subject to performance and requirement of CoPA.
  • An annual increment of 3% of the remuneration will be paid for every completed year, subject to satisfactory performance.
  • The engagement is purely on contract basis and confers no right to claim regular appointment.
  • Selected candidates cannot leave headquarters without prior permission, and must give 3 months’ advance notice before leaving the assignment.
  • The Port reserves the right to terminate the contract at any time on grounds of misconduct or otherwise, without notice.
  • No other assignment is permitted during the contract period; medical benefits are on par with CoPA’s contract employees.
  • Government/PSU/CPSE employees must obtain approval from their competent authority and submit a No Objection Certificate if shortlisted.

Why Naval Background Anchors This Recruitment

Since all three posts require prior service as a Petty Officer (Executive Branch) in the Indian Navy or equivalent, or an NWKO (NCV) qualification, this recruitment is specifically structured for candidates with a maritime operational background rather than general port-sector applicants, reflecting the specialized nature of Marine Department supervisory functions at a major port.

Understanding the Progressive Experience Ladder

The three posts form a clear seniority ladder: AMSO requires only the base naval/NWKO qualification, DMSO additionally requires 5 years in a foreman/officer-level marine post, and MSO requires either 10 years at that level or 3 years at the Deputy level, meaning candidates should apply for the post matching their actual seniority rather than the highest-paying option, since experience proof will be verified before selection.

Trilingual Communication Requirement

Given that Cochin Port serves both domestic and international shipping traffic, all three posts require good spoken and written communication skills in English, Hindi, and Malayalam, making this a genuinely trilingual requirement that candidates should be prepared to demonstrate during the interview stage.

About Cochin Port Authority

Cochin Port Authority (CoPA), located at Willingdon Island, Kochi, Kerala, is a major port authority responsible for managing one of India’s important gateway ports on the west coast. The Marine Department oversees vessel movement, pilotage, and marine operations, and this recruitment strengthens its Functional Supervisory cadre with experienced maritime personnel.

Why Naval Veterans Are a Natural Fit for This Recruitment

For retired Petty Officers from the Indian Navy’s Executive Branch, this recruitment offers a structured second career pathway that directly values their maritime operational experience, unlike many civilian roles where naval service must be reframed or translated into unfamiliar terms; here, the naval rank and experience requirement is written directly into the eligibility criteria itself.

What the 3-Year Contract With Annual Increments Means Financially

Since each of the three posts carries an explicit 3% annual increment on the base remuneration, subject to satisfactory performance, candidates should calculate their expected earnings across the full contract period rather than the starting salary alone, recognizing that the AMSO, DMSO, and MSO roles offer modest but compounding pay growth over a potential 5-year engagement (3 years plus a possible 2-year extension).

Final Word

Eligible candidates with a Petty Officer (Executive Branch) Navy background or NWKO (NCV) qualification, along with the required experience, should apply online through the Cochin Port Authority career portal for the AMSO, DMSO, or MSO posts by 12 October 2026.
