About the Gulm Samadeshak (Company Commander) Post

The Gulm Samadeshak, or Company Commander, is a supervisory leadership position within the Bihar Home Guard Vahini, responsible for commanding a company-level unit of Home Guards and overseeing their deployment, discipline, and operational readiness. This recruitment provides a structured promotion pathway for experienced Home Guards who have served at least 5 years in the organization, rewarding their field experience with an opportunity to move into a Pay Level-6 supervisory role.

Why the Internal-Cadre Restriction Shapes This Recruitment

Since this post is filled exclusively from within the existing Bihar Home Guard cadre rather than through open public recruitment, the competition pool is inherently limited to those already serving as Home Guards with a minimum of 5 years’ experience, making this a career-progression opportunity rather than a general entry-level government job. Candidates from outside the Home Guard organization, however qualified otherwise, are not eligible to apply for this particular post.

Understanding the Two-Paper Main Examination Structure

Since Paper I (General Hindi) is qualifying in nature and its marks are not counted toward the final merit, while Paper II (General Studies and allied subjects) alone determines the merit list ranking, candidates should ensure they comfortably clear the 30% qualifying threshold in Hindi without over-investing preparation time there, and instead focus the bulk of their preparation on the General Studies, Science, History, Geography, Mathematics, and Mental Ability topics covered in Paper II.

Final Word

Eligible Bihar Home Guards with at least 5 years of service, a Graduate degree, and age between 24-50 years should complete their online application at https://bpssc.bihar.gov.in under the “Home Guard” tab between 10 September 2026 and 10 October 2026 for the Gulm Samadeshak (Company Commander) post.

Preparing for the Physical Efficiency Test Given Age Range

Since eligible candidates can be up to 50 years of age, considerably older than the typical entry-level constable recruitment age band, candidates nearing the upper age limit should begin dedicated physical conditioning well ahead of the exam cycle to meet the Race, High Jump, Long Jump, and Shot Put standards, since these standards apply uniformly across the 24-50 age range without any age-based relaxation in the physical benchmarks themselves.
