Why This Vacancy Is Restricted to One Specific Locality

Since Anganwadi Centres are designed to serve a defined local population and the AWC service area explicitly covers Ward No. 2, House No. 1 through House No. 119 of Paribakul village, only women permanently residing within this exact boundary are eligible, and candidates residing outside this specific area, even elsewhere within Balasore Sadar Block, cannot apply for this particular vacancy.

Understanding the Weightage-Based Selection Process

Selection follows a structured weightage system combining Academic Performance (up to 70 marks, scaled by percentage secured, with higher weightage for candidates with 80% and above) and Training/B.Ed weightage (up to 30 marks) for candidates possessing relevant training, giving candidates with stronger academic records and relevant training/certification a clear numerical advantage in the merit list.

About the Anganwadi Worker Role

Anganwadi Workers form the frontline of India’s Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme, delivering early childhood care, nutrition support, health check-up coordination, and pre-school education to children in their assigned locality. This honorarium-based, community-rooted engagement plays a vital role in Odisha’s child welfare infrastructure at the grassroots level.

Why This Recruitment Model Is Common Across Odisha’s AWCs

Odisha’s Anganwadi Worker recruitment consistently follows this hyper-local model, tying each vacancy to a specific centre’s defined ward and house-number range, because Anganwadi Workers are expected to already know and be trusted within their immediate community, making local residency a functional requirement rather than a bureaucratic formality, and this pattern repeats across nearly every district in the state whenever a single AWC post opens up.

Special Preference Categories Worth Noting

Beyond the standard academic and training weightage, the notification specifically provides for extra marks to destitute or helpless women, widows, persons with disabilities, orphans, and candidates from ST/SC backgrounds, as well as existing Home Guards or former CDPO Sahayika/Anganwadi Helper staff, meaning eligible women from these categories should ensure they submit the relevant supporting certificate at the time of application to claim this additional weightage in the merit calculation.

Final Word

Eligible women residents of the Paribakul AWC service area meeting the age and qualification criteria should register and apply online at engagement.awc.odisha.gov.in between 11 and 24 September 2026, and appear for document verification on 28 September 2026.
