UCSL Recruitment 2026: Udupi Cochin Shipyard Limited (UCSL), Malpe – a wholly owned subsidiary of Cochin Shipyard Limited under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways – is hiring for the post of Supervisor (Mechanical) on a contract basis. Who Can Apply – Qualification, Experience and Age

UCSL is open to two different educational backgrounds for this post, and the experience needed changes depending on which one you hold:

Having a post-diploma qualification in NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) will count in your favour, as will hands-on exposure to scaffolding, rigging, welding, marine hull systems, fabrication, quality control, or hull/piping work.

Age limit: You should not be older than 45 years as of 8 October 2026 – in other words, born on or after 9 October 1981. OBC candidates get 3 extra years, SC/ST candidates get 5 extra years, and ex-servicemen get relaxation as per standard government norms. Even after all relaxations, nobody can be older than 55.

What You’ll Be Paid

This is a contractual role, but the pay rises every year you stay on:

On top of this, UCSL also covers you under its Provident Fund and medical insurance schemes, and reimburses eligible medical expenses.

Application Fee

General, OBC and EWS candidates need to pay Rs 300 online (card or net banking) plus bank charges – this is non-refundable. SC and ST candidates don’t have to pay anything. Whatever fee applies to you, your application only counts as submitted once the payment has gone through.

How Selection Works

There’s no interview here – UCSL runs a two-phase test instead:

1. Phase 1 – Written Test (45 minutes): An objective-type paper worth 40 marks (20 questions covering General Knowledge, English, Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude, plus 20 questions from your trade), followed by a 90-minute descriptive paper worth another 40 marks on subject-related questions. There’s no negative marking. Only those who clear the objective paper get their descriptive answers checked.
2. Passing marks: 50% for General category, 45% for OBC, and 40% for SC/ST candidates, on each paper.
3. Certificate verification: UCSL shortlists roughly 6 candidates per vacancy (in merit order) for document checks. Only those who clear this move to Phase 2.
4. Phase 2 – PowerPoint Presentation (20 marks): A short, 10-minute presentation on your work experience, held either at UCSL Malpe or online.
5. Your final rank is based on your combined Phase 1 + Phase 2 score. If two people tie, the one with a higher objective-test score wins; if it’s still tied, the older candidate gets preference.
