If the number of applicants is less than 10 times the vacancy, a direct Interview will be conducted instead.

About This Recruitment
Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, one of the Government of NCT of Delhi’s key hospitals with a dedicated Trauma Centre, is strengthening its Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery capacity by recruiting 4 Senior Residents on an ad-hoc basis. Trauma centres frequently deal with maxillofacial injuries requiring specialized surgical intervention, making this an important clinical role for MDS-qualified Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons looking to gain focused trauma-care experience while working within the Delhi government hospital system at an attractive Level-11 pay scale.
Why the 3-Year Senior Residency Cap Matters
Candidates should carefully note the eligibility condition that they must not have completed 3 years of Senior Residency in any recognized institution, whether on a Regular or Ad-hoc basis, before applying. This is a standard restriction across most government Senior Resident recruitments in India, intended to ensure the position serves as a genuine training and transition role toward independent practice or faculty positions, rather than indefinitely extended residency. MDS-qualified candidates approaching this 3-year cumulative limit from previous ad-hoc or regular Senior Residency postings elsewhere should verify their exact tenure before applying, since exceeding this limit would render them ineligible.
Preparing a Complete Application
Since this application must be submitted physically by post or hand rather than online, and applications received after the due date or time will not be entertained regardless of postal delay, candidates should prioritize submitting well ahead of the 14 September 2026 deadline. All listed documents – MDS degree and mark sheets, DCI/Delhi Dental Council registration, category certificate (if applicable), and a valid photo ID – should be self-attested and organized together before submission to the R&I Section at SGMH, S Block, Mangolpuri, Delhi, to avoid the application being rejected as incomplete.
About Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital
Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, located at Mangolpuri in Delhi, is a Government of NCT of Delhi hospital that runs a dedicated Trauma Centre providing emergency and specialized care to patients across the National Capital Territory. As part of the broader public healthcare infrastructure under the Department of Health and Family Welfare, GNCTD, SGMH regularly recruits Senior Residents across various specialties on ad-hoc and regular bases to maintain adequate specialist coverage, particularly in high-demand trauma-related departments like Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, where timely surgical intervention can be critical to patient outcomes.
How the Screening Process Could Affect Your Chances
Given that the number of eligible applicants is expected to significantly exceed the 4 available vacancies, candidates should not assume that meeting the basic MDS qualification and registration requirements guarantees an interview call. Since only 5 times the number of vacancies (20 candidates) will be shortlisted through the Screening/Written Test stage for the Interview, candidates with additional Senior Residency experience, publications, or specialized trauma-care exposure within their eligible tenure may stand a stronger chance of being shortlisted among a large applicant pool competing for these 4 positions.
Why This Is Attractive Despite Being Ad-hoc
Although this appointment is technically ad-hoc rather than a regular government posting, the Level-11 pay scale (Rs. 67,700 to Rs. 2,08,700) matches what a regular Senior Resident would earn, and the position offers extendability up to 3 years subject to satisfactory performance, making it a substantially longer-term opportunity than a typical short ad-hoc engagement. For MDS graduates in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery who have not yet exhausted their eligible 3-year Senior Residency window, a Trauma Centre posting at a Delhi government hospital offers valuable exposure to high-acuity maxillofacial trauma cases that can meaningfully strengthen a future application for faculty or consultant-level positions.
