Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a unit of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), has released a massive apprenticeship notice for the year 2026-27. The Learning & Development Department of RSP invites applications from eligible Indian citizens for the One Year Apprenticeship Training Programme under the Apprentices Act, 1961.

All eligible Indian citizens can apply for this apprenticeship. However, RSP has set clear eligibility rules to keep the process fair for genuinely fresh candidates.

A. Trade Apprentices (ITI Pass-outs) – 421 Vacancies

For Trade Apprentices, the qualification needed is ITI Passed out in the respective trade from a Govt. recognized Institute. Fitter and Electrician together account for 200 of the 421 trade vacancies, making them the biggest opportunity in this category.

B. Graduate/Technician Apprentices – 689 Vacancies (414 Diploma + 275 Degree)

Engineering candidates need a Degree or Diploma in the respective discipline from a Govt. recognized Institute or University. Electrical and Mechanical/Mechatronics together offer the highest vacancy count among engineering disciplines, at 105 and 120 combined seats respectively.

Age Limit for RSP Apprentice Recruitment 2026-27

The minimum age is 18 years, and the maximum age is 28 years, calculated as on 31 August 2026. This applies uniformly to both Trade and Graduate/Technician Apprentice categories.

Reservation and age relaxation will be followed as per the guidelines of the Government of Odisha. So SC, ST, OBC and PH candidates may get additional age relaxation as applicable under state norms.

Application Fee for RSP Apprentice Recruitment 2026-27

The notification does not mention any application fee for registering on the apprenticeship portals or for the walk-in process. Candidates can register and apply without any payment.

Selection depends purely on academic merit, calculated through a weighted formula: 30 percent weightage goes to marks secured in the Class X examination, and 70 percent weightage goes to marks secured in the Degree, Diploma or ITI examination, as applicable to the candidate’s category.

Shortlisting happens through this merit formula, and eligible candidates then attend a walk-in for document verification, based on the vacancies available in each trade or discipline.
