Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) has released a fresh employment notification inviting online applications for various Non-Executive and Erstwhile Group D posts. This recruitment covers 201 vacancies across 12 post categories, ranging from Senior Section Engineer to Track Maintainer, spread across the Civil, Signal & Telecommunication, Operating, Electrical, Mechanical, and Commercial departments.

KRCL operates the Konkan Railway Line connecting Roha in Maharashtra to Thokur in Karnataka, passing through Goa. This recruitment has a distinctive feature compared to most government job notifications: it gives first preference to land loser candidates, people whose land was acquired for building the Konkan Railway line, followed by candidates registered with Employment Exchanges along the route, and then other domiciles of Maharashtra, Goa, and Karnataka. This article explains every post, eligibility criterion, pay scale, and the full selection process.

Who Can Apply for KRCL Recruitment

Five categories of candidates are eligible to apply for this recruitment:

  • Land loser candidates: Candidates whose land was acquired for construction of the Konkan Railway Line between Roha (Maharashtra) and Thokur (Karnataka), irrespective of the percentage of land lost. This benefit also extends to the candidate’s spouse, son, daughter, grandson, and granddaughter.
  • Employment Exchange registered candidates: Candidates domiciled in Maharashtra, Goa, or Karnataka, holding a valid Employment Exchange card registered along the Konkan Railway route (Raigad, Sindhudurg, and Ratnagiri districts of Maharashtra; Goa State; and Uttara Kannada, Udupi, and Dakshina Kannada districts of Karnataka).
  • Other domicile candidates: Candidates domiciled in the states of Maharashtra, Goa, and Karnataka, even outside the specific KR-route districts.
  • KRCL employees: Employees who have completed at least three years of regular service in KRCL.

Panels for recruitment are prepared in order of preference: land loser candidates first, followed by Employment Exchange registered candidates, and then other domiciled candidates and eligible KRCL employees. Recruitment in the Erstwhile Group-D post of Track Maintainer is limited to Land Loser candidates only. Candidates must declare their eligibility category at the time of application, and this cannot be changed later.

Selection Process

The recruitment process differs by post category, following three separate tracks:

  • Section Controller, Station Master, Assistant Loco Pilot: Computer Based Test (CBT), followed by Computer-Based Aptitude Test/OMR-based Aptitude Test (called for 8 times the notified vacancies), then Document Verification (DV) and Medical Examination. The merit list gives 70% weightage to CBT marks and 30% to Aptitude Test marks.
  • Senior Section Engineer (S&T/Mechanical), Junior Engineer (Civil/Mechanical), Goods Train Manager, Commercial Supervisor, Technician-III, ESTM-III: CBT followed directly by DV and Medical Examination.
  • Track Maintainer: CBT followed by DV (called 5 times the notified vacancies), Physical Efficiency Test or PET (called 3 times the notified vacancies, mandatory and qualifying in nature), and Medical Examination.

The CBT is tentatively scheduled for September 2026 and will be conducted in five languages: English, Hindi, Marathi, Konkani, and Kannada. There is negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer.

Group C posts (SSE, JE, SCOR, SM, ALP, GTM, Commercial Supervisor, Technician-III, ESTM-III)50%40%

These qualifying marks are further reduced by 2% for PwBD candidates. Each CBT paper is of 90 minutes duration and 100 marks, with the exact section-wise split of General Science, Basic Mathematics, General Awareness & Reasoning, and Technical Ability varying by post, as detailed in the official notification.

Physical Efficiency Test (For Track Maintainer)

The PET consists of two stages conducted in sequence: the Weight Carrying Test first, and only candidates who clear it proceed to the Running Test after a recovery gap. Failing the Weight Carrying Test results in elimination at that stage itself.

Medical Standards

Each post is assigned a Medical Standard category (A-1, A-2, A-3, B-1, or C-1), with progressively relaxed vision requirements. Posts with A-1, A-2, A-3, and B-1 standards do not accept candidates who have undergone LASIK or similar corrective eye surgery, or those suffering from vertigo. Minimum height required is 152 cm for male candidates and 150 cm for female candidates, with relaxation for candidates from communities such as Gorkhas, Assamese, Nagaland tribal, and Garhwalis, whose average height is distinctly lower. Contact lenses are not permitted for any of the notified posts.

Why You Should Apply for This Post

KRCL offers a stable central Public Sector Undertaking career with structured 7th CPC pay levels, across a wide range of technical and non-technical posts. With 201 vacancies and a preference system that favours local candidates domiciled along the Konkan Railway route, this is a strong opportunity for candidates from Maharashtra, Goa, and Karnataka, especially those who are land loser candidates or registered with local Employment Exchanges.

Preparation Tips

Since the CBT is screening in nature and matches the educational standard of each post, candidates should revise the core subjects relevant to their chosen post, such as basic electrical/mechanical/civil engineering fundamentals for technical posts, and general awareness, reasoning, and basic mathematics for posts like Station Master, Section Controller, and Commercial Supervisor. Since negative marking applies, candidates should attempt questions carefully rather than guessing randomly.

Candidates applying for Track Maintainer should start physical conditioning well in advance for the PET, since it is a mandatory qualifying stage separate from the written exam, requiring both strength (weight carrying) and stamina (1000m run) within strict time limits.

General Instructions

  • Any attempt to register more than once against this notification will result in rejection of all registrations and debarment from the selection process.
  • Candidates should visit only the official KRCL website and be cautious of fake websites and job racketeers.
  • Mobile phones, calculators, smart watches, and other banned items are not allowed inside the examination hall; violation leads to disqualification and legal action.
  • Call letters will be sent only through SMS and email, not by post; no request for change of mobile number or email will be entertained once submitted.
  • Serving KRCL employees applying under this notification must inform their immediate supervisor about their application, and their selection is subject to D&AR and Vigilance clearance.
