About This Recruitment

With 2863 total posts, this JKSSB Class-IV (MTS)/Sanitation Worker recruitment is among the largest single recruitment drives in Jammu & Kashmir this year, spanning UT-level, Divisional-level (Jammu and Kashmir divisions) and District-level cadres across nearly all 20 districts of the UT. Matric/8th-pass qualified candidates across Jammu & Kashmir have a genuinely wide geographic spread of opportunity, from Home District-based District Cadre posts to broader Divisional and UT Cadre postings.

Understanding the Three-Tier Cadre Structure

Candidates should carefully choose which cadre level to apply for based on their residence, since District Cadre posts award 10 additional marks for Home District residency (verified via Domicile Certificate), Divisional Cadre posts award 5 marks for Home Division residency, while UT Cadre posts have no such geographic preference but face competition from candidates across the entire UT. This tiered marks structure means candidates applying within their own home district or division generally hold a meaningful competitive advantage over those applying to a cadre level outside their home area.

Why This Recruitment Matters for Jammu & Kashmir’s Job Market

JKSSB’s Class-IV recruitment drives are historically among the most keenly awaited government job opportunities in Jammu & Kashmir, given the entry-level educational requirements (Matric/8th Pass) that make these posts accessible to a very large pool of eligible candidates across the UT. With departments ranging from Agriculture and Animal Husbandry to Public Works and Higher Education participating in this single consolidated advertisement, successful candidates gain stable government employment across a genuinely diverse set of work environments, from field-based agricultural support roles to office and institutional sanitation and support functions.

Preparing Well Ahead of the October Application Window

Although the online application window does not open until 05 October 2026, eligible candidates should use the time between now and then to gather their Domicile Certificate, Matric/educational certificates, category certificates (where applicable), and any documents supporting additional weightage claims such as casual worker service proof or family government-service status certificates. Since the selection criteria award meaningful additional marks for home district/division residency and specific social circumstances, candidates should identify well in advance which weightage categories they may be eligible to claim and ensure the corresponding certificates are ready before the application window opens.

A Note on the Registration and Cut-off Timeline

Candidates should note the specific dates carefully: while the notification itself was released on 01 September 2026, actual online registration only begins over a month later on 05 October 2026, giving eligible candidates a meaningful head start to prepare documentation before the roughly one-month application window closes on 03 November 2026. Given the scale of 2863 posts spread across dozens of departments and three cadre levels, candidates should also carefully review Annexure-A of the detailed notification to identify the exact department, cadre and post code matching their eligibility before beginning the online application, rather than assuming any Class-IV or Sanitation Worker post is interchangeable.

The Value of Weightage Marks for Special Circumstances

Beyond the core written test, JKSSB’s selection criteria specifically award marks for candidates whose family members have never been in government service, for widows, divorced or judicially separated women and orphan girls, and for casual workers with five or more years of documented engagement, recognizing that these categories of candidates often face additional barriers to accessing stable employment. Candidates who fall into any of these categories should ensure they obtain the correct supporting certificates well in advance, since these additional marks (up to 15 points at UT Cadre level, and up to 20-25 points at Divisional/District Cadre levels when combined with home-district/division marks) can make a genuinely decisive difference in a competitive selection process spanning thousands of applicants for each post.

A Final Word

Given the sheer scale of this recruitment, spanning nearly 3000 posts, eligible candidates across Jammu & Kashmir, regardless of which specific district or division they reside in, have a genuine opportunity worth pursuing, provided they carefully match their application to the correct cadre, department and post code, and prepare their supporting documentation thoroughly and completely well before the October application window formally opens for online submission.

Sanitation Worker vs Class-IV (MTS): Understanding the Distinction

Candidates should note that Sanitation Worker and Class-IV (MTS) are treated as two distinct post categories within this notification, each with its own minimum qualification threshold, 8th Pass for Sanitation Worker versus Matric for Class-IV (MTS), even though both share the same SL1 pay scale. Candidates who have passed only up to 8th standard remain eligible specifically for Sanitation Worker posts within their preferred cadre and department, while Matric-and-above qualified candidates may apply to either category depending on availability in their chosen department.
