Job Overview
The High Court of Himachal Pradesh has thrown open one of the largest district judiciary recruitment drives the state has seen recently — 388 posts spread across six very different job types, from a Group-B Court Manager role all the way down to Peon and Safai Karamchari positions. What makes this notification worth reading carefully, post by post, is that each of the six categories has its own qualification bar, its own selection process, and its own category-wise reservation split — so a blanket “who’s eligible” summary would genuinely mislead you. Below, we’ve broken down every post individually: how many seats, for which category, under what qualification, and through what selection process, exactly as published in Advertisement Notice No. DJ-ADVT./2026(1).
The Six Post Types at a Glance

| Stenographer Grade-III | C | 79 | Level-06 (₹25,600-81,200) |
| Driver | C | 9 | Level-05 (₹21,300-67,800) |

1. Court Manager — 5 Posts (Regular Only)
This is the most senior of the six posts and also the smallest in headcount. You’ll need a Graduation degree in any stream plus a Master’s in Business Administration from a UGC-recognised university, along with 3 years of hands-on experience in Process Management, IT Systems Management, Human Resources Management, or Financial Management. Good knowledge of legal affairs and computer applications counts as a desirable (not mandatory) extra. Selection runs through a Written Test and Viva-voce as per the R&P Rules, and this is the only post on the list with its own distinct age band — 25 to 35 years, rather than the general 18-45/18-50 window that applies elsewhere.
2. Clerk — 141 Posts (84 Regular + 57 Contract)
Clerk is the single largest category in this entire drive. You need a Graduation degree plus basic computer literacy — operating Windows and Linux, and being comfortable typing and printing documents. The selection path runs through a Screening Test, a Written Test, a Typing Test, and Document Verification, and the typing bar is specific: 30 words per minute in English, 25 WPM in Hindi using the Kruti Dev-10 font.
| Category | Regular | Contract | Combined |
|---|---|---|---|
| UR | 29 | 23 | 52 |
| SC | 19 | 13 | 32 |
| ST | 5 | 4 | 9 |
| OBC | 17 | 11 | 28 |
| EWS | 11 | 4 | 15 |
| PH | 3 | 2 | 5 |
| Total | 84 | 57 | 141 |
Worth noting: Regular Clerk posts already carry both clear-cut and anticipated vacancies within that 84 figure (for instance, the 29 UR seats break down as 28 clear-cut plus 1 anticipated), while all 57 Contract seats are clear-cut. Anticipated vacancies depend on retirements and promotions materialising, so they aren’t guaranteed the way clear-cut seats are.
3. Stenographer Grade-III — 79 Posts (48 Regular + 31 Contract)
A straightforward Graduation degree is the academic requirement, but the skills bar here is the steepest of any Group-C post on this list. After a Screening Test (syllabus uploaded separately on the website), you’ll face a Stenography Test in English at 80 words per minute with accurate transcription within 5 times the dictation duration, plus a Typing Test at 40 WPM English / 30 WPM Hindi (Kruti Dev-10 font). More than 10% mistakes in either the transcription or the typed matter disqualifies you outright — there’s no partial credit for a near-miss here.
| Category | Regular | Contract | Combined |
|---|---|---|---|
| UR | 15 | 11 | 26 |
| SC | 11 | 8 | 19 |
| ST | 4 | 1 | 5 |
| OBC | 12 | 6 | 18 |
| EWS | 2 | 4 | 6 |
| PH | 4 | 1 | 5 |
| Total | 48 | 31 | 79 |
4. Driver — 9 Posts (4 Regular + 5 Daily Wages)
The smallest post-type by count. You need a Matriculation pass plus a valid LMV (Light Motor Vehicle) driving licence held for at least 3 years, along with 3 years of actual driving experience. Selection is a Screening Test, a driving Proficiency Test, and Document Verification — and candidates with good mechanical knowledge of automobiles get preference, which is a small but meaningful edge if you’ve done any hands-on vehicle maintenance work.
| Category | Regular | Daily Wages | Combined |
|---|---|---|---|
| UR | 2 | 4 | 6 |
| SC | 1 | 0 | 1 |
| OBC | 1 | 1 | 2 |
| Total | 4 | 5 | 9 |
5. Process Server — 65 Posts (61 Regular + 1 Contract + 3 Daily Wages)
A 10+2 pass is the qualifying academic requirement, and selection proceeds through a Screening Test, Written Test, and Evaluation as per the R&P Rules. This role involves serving court summons, notices, and legal documents on behalf of the district judiciary — less desk-bound than Clerk, more field-oriented.
| Category | Regular | Contract | Daily Wages | Combined |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| UR | 26 | 1 | 2 | 29 |
| SC | 15 | 0 | 1 | 16 |
| ST | 2 | 0 | 0 | 2 |
| OBC | 9 | 0 | 0 | 9 |
| EWS | 9 | 0 | 0 | 9 |
| Total | 61 | 1 | 3 | 65 |
6. Peon/Orderly/Chowkidar/Safai Karamchari — 89 Posts (69 Regular + 20 Daily Wages)
Also a 10+2 pass requirement, but the selection process here is unusual compared to the other five posts — there’s no written test at all. Instead, candidates are shortlisted in a 1:3 ratio purely on 10+2 marks (calculated out of 85) combined with 15 marks for document evaluation, giving a combined 100-mark basis for the final merit list. A candidate scoring 50% in their 10+2, for example, would be credited 42.5 out of the 85 marks reserved for academics.
| Category | Regular | Daily Wages | Combined |
|---|---|---|---|
| UR | 29 | 8 | 37 |
| SC | 14 | 4 | 18 |
| ST | 2 | 0 | 2 |
| OBC | 11 | 6 | 17 |
| EWS | 8 | 1 | 9 |
| PH | 5 | 1 | 6 |
| Total | 69 | 20 | 89 |
Age Limit (As on 01.01.2026)
The 5-year relaxation for reserved categories only applies to bonafide SC/ST/OBC candidates of Himachal Pradesh, and to persons with benchmark disabilities of HP, and only where that specific post is reserved for their category. If you’re applying to an unreserved (UR) seat, the general 18-45 window applies to you regardless of your own category.
Application Fee
Fee is payable only through online mode and is non-refundable once paid, under any circumstances.
A Few Rules That Trip Up Applicants
The High Court’s notification runs to over 30 general instructions, but a handful of them are worth flagging specifically because they catch applicants off guard:

Questions Candidates Are Asking
Can I apply for more than one post out of these six?
The notification doesn’t prohibit applying to multiple different posts, but it does specify that if you’re applying to multiple vacancies, you should choose the same district as your exam centre preference, since tests for different posts can be scheduled on the same day in morning and evening sessions.
What’s the difference between ‘clear-cut’ and ‘anticipated’ vacancies in the tables above?
Clear-cut vacancies are confirmed, existing openings. Anticipated vacancies depend on future retirements or promotions materialising — the High Court has explicitly stated candidates cannot claim appointment against anticipated vacancies as a matter of right.
I’m not from Himachal Pradesh — can I still apply?
You need to be a citizen of India and meet the local dialect/custom knowledge condition tied to educational institution location within HP for Group-C and Group-D posts, unless you qualify as a Bonafide Himachali. Court Manager (Group-B) doesn’t carry this specific local-institution condition.
Do EWS vacancies get filled by someone else if no EWS candidate is available?
Yes. Per Government of HP instructions dated 11.06.2019, if no EWS candidate is available for a post reserved for that category, it’s automatically de-reserved and filled from a non-EWS unreserved candidate.
What documents do I need to prove my category?
SC/ST/OBC/EWS certificates must be issued by the SDO (Civil)/Tehsildar/Naib Tehsildar, and must be valid both at the time of application and at Document Verification. Certificates issued in a parent’s name (rather than the candidate’s own name) are not accepted, except for BPL certificates.
Is there a common written exam for all six posts?
No — each post has its own distinct selection process. Court Manager gets a Written Test + Viva-voce; Clerk and Stenographer Grade-III get Screening + Written/Stenography + Typing Tests; Driver gets Screening + Proficiency Test; Process Server gets Screening + Written Test + Evaluation; and Peon/Orderly/Safai Karamchari skips a written test entirely, relying on 10+2 marks plus document evaluation.
