About This Recruitment

District Legal Services Authorities operate under the Legal Services Authority Act, 1987, to provide free legal aid and promote legal awareness among the public, particularly for weaker and marginalized sections of society. Para Legal Volunteers are trained community members who support this work at the grassroots level, helping ordinary people understand their legal rights and access legal aid services without needing to hire a lawyer first. This recruitment by DLSA Sangrur is meant to build or strengthen its panel of Para Legal Volunteers, both at the district headquarters and at the sub-divisional level through the Legal Services Committees at Dhuri, Malerkotla and Sunam.

Why the Eligible Groups Are So Broad

Unlike most job notices that specify a single qualification, this notice deliberately lists a wide range of eligible groups, from teachers and doctors to Anganwadi workers, law students, NGO members, and even educated prisoners with good behaviour. This reflects the nature of Para Legal Volunteer work, which depends less on a specific professional qualification and more on standing, trust and connection within the local community, since a Para Legal Volunteer’s main job is to be someone ordinary people are comfortable approaching for basic legal guidance and awareness.

A Para Legal Volunteer typically spends time visiting villages, urban slums, schools, or community gatherings within their assigned area, spreading awareness about government legal aid schemes, basic rights, and how ordinary people can access free legal help through the District Legal Services Authority. They often act as the first point of contact for someone who has a legal problem but does not know where to start, guiding them toward the right forum, whether that is a Lok Adalat, a legal aid clinic, or a formal court process, and helping them fill out the paperwork needed to seek legal aid.

Choosing Between District and Sub-Division Level Work

Since this notice covers empanelment both at the DLSA office in Sangrur and at the Sub-Divisional Legal Services Committees in Dhuri, Malerkotla and Sunam, candidates should think carefully about which area they can realistically serve on a regular basis before submitting their preference. A volunteer working at the sub-division level typically engages more directly with a smaller, more local community, while one working at the district level may support a wider range of legal aid activities coordinated from the Sangrur headquarters.
