Who Can Apply

Any Indian citizen holding a valid medical postgraduate qualification in Psychiatry can apply for this post. Doctors already working in government hospitals or private clinics can also apply, but they must arrange a No Objection Certificate from their employer.

Candidates from outside Chhattisgarh can also apply, but they will be treated under the unreserved category only. Reservation benefits are given only to local candidates of Chhattisgarh who belong to the notified SC, ST or OBC (non-creamy layer) categories.

Educational Qualification

The eligibility rule here is simple to understand once you break it down.

  • You must hold a postgraduate degree or diploma in Psychiatry from a university recognised by the Medical Council of India (now National Medical Commission).
  • You must have a valid and active registration with the National Medical Commission or any State Medical Council.

In short, an MD or DNB in Psychiatry, along with a valid medical council registration, makes you eligible. Make sure your registration is not expired, because this is checked strictly at the document verification stage.

Age Limit

Your age should be between 25 and 35 years as on 1 January 2026. This means you should not be born before 2 January 1991 or after 1 January 2001, roughly speaking.

Good news for local candidates. Chhattisgarh state residents get 5 extra years, so their upper age limit becomes 40 years. There are further relaxations too. SC, ST and OBC candidates of Chhattisgarh get 5 more years. Persons with disability, ex-servicemen, widows, divorced women and contract or ad-hoc government employees also get separate age relaxation as per state rules. Local women of Chhattisgarh get a straight 10-year relaxation in the upper age limit.

All these relaxations have an overall upper cap, so even after adding every benefit, the final age limit does not usually cross 45 years.

Application Fee

The fee for this recruitment depends on your category and residence.

  • Rs. 300 for Chhattisgarh local SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer) and PwD candidates.
  • Rs. 400 for all other candidates, including general category and candidates from outside Chhattisgarh.

On top of this fee, every candidate has to pay a portal charge plus GST. This fee is generally not refundable. But there is a relief for local Chhattisgarh candidates. If you attend the exam or interview, your exam fee amount will be credited back to your account after the process, though portal charges and GST are not refunded.

Salary

This is one of the most attractive parts of this recruitment. The post carries Pay Matrix Level-13, which ranges from Rs. 67,300 to Rs. 2,13,100 per month. On top of this basic pay, you will get dearness allowance and other allowances as fixed by the state government from time to time.

This is a strong government salary package for a medical specialist post. Along with pay, government doctors also enjoy job security, pension benefits and steady career growth as gazetted officers.

Selection Process

The selection method depends on how many applications the commission receives.

  1. If applications are limited: Selection will be done directly through an interview of 100 marks. You need at least 33 marks to qualify. SC, ST and OBC candidates need a minimum of 23 marks.
  2. If applications are very high: The commission may conduct a written exam first, followed by an interview. The exam pattern and syllabus will be announced separately later. Raipur will be the exam center in that case.

So you should be ready for both possibilities. Brush up your core Psychiatry subject knowledge, and also stay prepared for a written test format just in case.

Documents Required

Keep these documents ready in original, along with self-attested photocopies, before applying and attending the interview.

  • 10th or 12th/Matriculation certificate for date of birth proof
  • Mark sheets of all years/semesters of your qualifying degree
  • Postgraduate degree or diploma certificate in Psychiatry
  • Medical registration certificate from NMC or State Medical Council
  • Caste certificate, if you are claiming SC/ST/OBC benefit
  • Income certificate for OBC candidates (non-creamy layer), issued within the last 3 years
  • Supporting certificate for age relaxation, if you are claiming any
  • No Objection Certificate, if you are already in government or PSU service
  • Valid photo ID such as Aadhaar, PAN, Voter ID, Passport or Driving Licence
  • Recent passport size photograph and scanned signature for online upload

Keep your medical council registration certificate updated and valid, since an expired registration can create trouble during verification. Scan all documents clearly in advance so that uploading becomes quick and error-free.

How to Apply

Follow these steps to complete your online application correctly.

Why You Should Apply

A Psychiatrist post under a state government carries strong long-term value. You get permanent job security, a good starting pay, yearly increments and pension benefits that are rare in private practice.

Being a gazetted Class-I officer also brings respect and recognition in society. If you already hold a Psychiatry postgraduate degree, this is a golden chance to join government service and build a stable, respected medical career.

Preparation Tips

  • Revise your core Psychiatry subjects thoroughly, since the interview panel tests deep subject knowledge.
  • Stay updated on Chhattisgarh health schemes and mental health programs run by the state.
  • Prepare well for general awareness and current affairs, in case a written exam is conducted.
  • Keep your documents organised in a file, sorted by category, well before the last date.
  • Practice mock interview questions on patient case discussions and treatment approaches.
  • Apply early to avoid last-minute website traffic and payment issues.

A calm and confident approach during the interview matters a lot. Prepare answers around your training, clinical experience and how you would manage patients in government hospital settings.
