BPSSC Forest Range Officer Recruitment 2026: Apply for 16 Posts

The Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission (BPSSC) has released a new notification for the post of Forest Range Officer. This job is under the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department, Bihar. A total of 16 vacancies are open. Graduates from science, agriculture, forestry or engineering background can apply. Who Can Apply?

This post is open for graduates only. If you hold a degree in science, agriculture, forestry or engineering, you can apply. Both male and female candidates can apply. Third gender candidates can also apply.

Educational Qualification

You need a graduate degree with at least one subject from this list: Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics or Zoology. A degree in Agriculture, Forestry or Engineering from a recognized university also works. You must hold this qualification by 1 August 2025.

Age Limit

Your age will be counted as on 1 August 2025.

• General category: Men need 21 to 37 years. Women need 21 to 40 years.
• BC and EBC category (men, women and third gender): 21 to 40 years.
• SC and ST category (men and women): 21 to 42 years.

Government employees already working in a regular post get 5 extra years, if they have completed 3 years of service. Ex-servicemen get 3 extra years. But no one’s age can go beyond 57 years, even with relaxation.

Physical Standards

There are height and chest requirements for this post.

Height:

• General, BC, EBC and SC men need at least 163 cm.
• ST men need at least 152.5 cm.
• General, BC, EBC and SC women need at least 150 cm.
• ST women need at least 145 cm.

Chest (only for men):

• Minimum 79 cm without expansion.
• Minimum 84 cm with expansion.
• The chest must expand by at least 5 cm.

Women do not need a chest measurement. Third gender candidates follow the same standard as BC category.

Physical Efficiency Test

This is an important part of selection.

• Men have to walk 25 km within 4 hours.
• Women have to walk 14 km within 4 hours.

If you take more time than this, you will be marked as failed, and you cannot move ahead in the selection, even with good marks in the written exam and interview.

Application Fee

The fee is the same for everyone.

You can pay through net banking, credit card or RuPay debit card only. No other payment mode will work.

Salary

This post comes under Pay Level-6. The pay scale is Rs 35,400 to Rs 112,400 per month. On top of this, you will get standard government allowances like dearness allowance and house rent allowance, as per the rules.

Selection Process

Selection has four stages:

1. Written Exam – Two papers.
2. Interview
3. Physical Efficiency Test
4. Medical Exam

Paper 1 – General Hindi: This paper has 50 questions for 100 marks. You get 1 hour to attempt it. You need at least 30 marks to qualify. Each correct answer gives you 2 marks, and each wrong answer cuts 0.2 marks. This paper is only qualifying, so its marks are not added to your final merit.

Paper 2 – General Studies: This paper has 100 questions for 300 marks. You get 2 hours to attempt it. It covers general knowledge, current affairs, general science, civics, Indian history, Indian geography, maths and reasoning. Each correct answer gives 3 marks, and each wrong answer cuts 0.3 marks. This paper’s marks count towards your final merit.

Candidates who score well in Paper 2 (6 times the number of vacancies, category-wise) get called for interview. The interview carries 50 marks. Your final merit is decided by adding your Paper 2 marks and interview marks together.

After the interview, candidates go through the Physical Efficiency Test and then a Medical Exam. Only fully fit candidates get the final recommendation for the job.

There is also 1 extra seat reserved for grandchildren of freedom fighters, under a separate 2% horizontal quota. Women get 35% horizontal reservation across all categories, but this is only for women who are original residents of Bihar.

4. Register yourself first with your name, mobile number, email ID, category, gender and date of birth.
5. Pay the application fee online.
6. Login with your registration number and password, and fill in your remaining details like father’s/husband’s name, address and qualification.
7. Upload your photo and signature in the correct format.
8. Check everything carefully, then submit your form. You cannot edit anything after final submission.

Important Documents Required

Keep your educational certificates, category certificate (if applicable), domicile certificate, ID proof and a recent photograph ready before you start filling the form. This will help you finish the application without delay.

Important Instructions

• Do not wait for the last date. Apply early to avoid last-minute website issues.
• Your photo must be recent (within 2 months), in colour, with a white background, and sized between 15 to 25 KB.
• Your signature should be in black or blue ink, on a white background, also sized between 15 to 25 KB.
• Check your form carefully before final submission, since changes are not allowed later.
• Only one application is allowed per candidate. Filling more than one form can lead to rejection of all your applications.
• The whole selection process can take around 6 months. No request for extra time will be accepted for any reason, including personal, medical or family reasons.
