About This Recruitment

AIIMS Guwahati, established as an Institute of National Importance under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), is one of the newer AIIMS institutions established to correct regional imbalance in tertiary healthcare access. This rolling advertisement fills 103 Senior Resident/Senior Demonstrator posts spanning nearly every clinical, para-clinical, and pre-clinical department, from General Surgery and Medicine to specialized areas like Nuclear Medicine, Neurosurgery, and Trauma & Emergency Medicine, marking a substantial expansion of the institute’s postgraduate medical residency workforce.

Why This Rolling Advertisement Matters for MD/MS Graduates

With 103 posts spread across 33 departments, this is one of the larger Senior Resident recruitment drives currently open at a central government medical institute, offering MD/MS/DNB-qualified doctors a structured 3-year tenure position with a defined career progression path under the Central Residency Scheme. The cross-specialty eligibility provisions, allowing General Medicine/Surgery postgraduates to apply for related super-specialty departments, and Pathology postgraduates to apply for Transfusion Medicine, significantly widen the pool of eligible candidates for several departments beyond those with an exact specialty match.

Understanding the Reservation and Merit Structure

Candidates should note that AIIMS Guwahati’s policy allows eligible applicants from any category to be considered for reserved-category seats when no candidate from that specific reserved category applies, within a defined 44-day window that can be extended by the competent authority. Since the final merit list depends entirely on interview performance rather than any written test, candidates should focus their preparation on demonstrating strong clinical knowledge and communication skills for the interview rather than expecting a separate written examination stage.

Preparing a Complete Online Application

Given the moderately tight two-week application window from 04 to 18 September 2026, candidates should have their postgraduate degree certificates, mark sheets, category certificates (where applicable), scanned photograph and signature in the correct format, and NOC (for those in government service) ready well before starting the online application. Candidates applying for more than one department should remember that each application requires a separate form and separate fee payment, so budgeting for multiple fee payments in advance can help avoid last-minute delays.

Final Word

Eligible MD/MS/DNB or M.Sc-Ph.D qualified candidates interested in a 3-year Senior Resident/Senior Demonstrator tenure at AIIMS Guwahati should complete their online application at https://aiimsguwahati.ac.in well before the 18 September 2026 deadline and monitor the website regularly for the interview schedule.

A Note on the Rolling Advertisement Format

Since this is described as a “rolling advertisement,” candidates should understand this typically means AIIMS Guwahati may periodically reopen or update this recruitment cycle to fill any remaining or newly arising vacancies across the same departments, rather than treating this as a strictly one-time closed window. Candidates who may not have been ready to apply within the current 04-18 September 2026 cycle should still monitor the AIIMS Guwahati website regularly, since rolling advertisements of this nature commonly see subsequent phases announced for departments where sufficient eligible candidates were not available in the initial round.

Why AIIMS Guwahati’s Growth Matters for Northeast India

As one of the newer AIIMS institutions established under PMSSY specifically to address regional healthcare imbalances, AIIMS Guwahati’s steady expansion of its Senior Resident cadre directly strengthens tertiary healthcare capacity across Assam and the wider Northeast region, an area that has historically had fewer advanced medical training and treatment centres compared to other parts of India. For doctors from the Northeast or those interested in contributing to healthcare development in the region, this recruitment offers both a structured career opportunity and the chance to be part of building out a still-growing institution of national importance.
