The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) has released the notification for CRP CSA-XVI, the sixteenth Common Recruitment Process for Customer Service Associate posts in Participating Public Sector Banks. This is one of the largest annual government job opportunities in India, with more than 11,400 indicative vacancies spread across 10 public sector banks and 36 states and union territories.
Every year, lakhs of graduates across India appear for this exam, popularly known as the IBPS Clerk exam, to secure a clerical cadre job in a public sector bank. This year’s cycle, CRP CSA-XVI, is meant to fill vacancies arising during the financial year 2027-28. The recruitment process involves two stages of online examination, Preliminary and Main, followed by provisional allotment to one of the participating banks. This article breaks down every part of the notification, from eligibility to the state-wise vacancy list, so that you can prepare and apply with confidence.
IBPS CRP CSA-XVI Recruitment 2026: Highlights
The table above gives a snapshot of one of the biggest banking recruitment drives of the year. Since recruitment in the clerical cadre is done on a State/UT-wise basis, candidates can apply for vacancies in only one State or UT. The sections below explain the full eligibility criteria, exam pattern, application fee, and how to apply.
Participating Banks
This common recruitment process covers 10 public sector banks across India. Candidates provisionally allotted through CRP CSA-XVI may be placed in any one of these banks, based on merit-cum-preference:
- Bank of Baroda
- Bank of India
- Bank of Maharashtra
- Canara Bank
- Central Bank of India
- Indian Bank
- Indian Overseas Bank
- Punjab National Bank
- Punjab & Sind Bank
- UCO Bank
Union Bank of India is also listed in the notification, though it has not reported vacancies (NR) for this cycle. Since clerical cadre recruitment is State/UT-wise, a candidate will appear for the online examination in the State/UT for which they are applying, though IBPS may allot a centre outside the chosen State/UT purely for conducting the exam, without affecting the vacancy the candidate is being considered for.
Who Can Apply for IBPS CSA Post
A candidate must be a Citizen of India, a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling here, or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, or certain East African and other listed countries with the intention of permanently settling in India. Candidates from categories other than Indian citizens must possess a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.
Educational Qualification
Candidates must hold a Degree (Graduation) in any discipline from a university recognized by the Government of India, or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Central Government, as on 21 August 2026. Candidates must possess a valid mark-sheet or degree certificate confirming their graduate status on the day they register, and must indicate their graduation percentage in the online application.
Two additional requirements apply to all applicants:
- Local Language Proficiency: Candidates must be proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the specified local language of the State/UT they are applying for.
- Computer Literacy: Candidates must have operating and working knowledge of computer systems, evidenced by a certificate, diploma, or degree in computer operations/language, or by having studied Computer/Information Technology as a subject in school, college, or institute.
Ex-servicemen who do not hold the above civil qualifications are eligible if they are matriculate and have obtained the Army Special Certificate of Education, or a corresponding certificate in the Navy or Air Force, after completing at least 15 years of service in the Armed Forces, as on 21 August 2026.
Age Limit (As on 1 August 2026)
The minimum age is 20 years and the maximum age is 28 years, meaning a candidate must have been born not earlier than 2 August 1998 and not later than 1 August 2006 (both dates inclusive).
The relaxation in upper age limit for SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates is allowed on a cumulative basis with only one of the other applicable relaxation categories. The maximum age limit specified applies to General category and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) candidates.
Application Fee
The application fee/intimation charges are payable online between 1 August 2026 and 21 August 2026:
Bank transaction charges for online payment of the fee are to be borne separately by the candidate.
Compensation / Pay Scale
The Customer Service Associate post carries the following basic pay scale, plus allowances and perquisites as applicable in the allotted Participating Bank from time to time:
Basic Pay: Rs.24,050-1340/3-28070-1650/3-33020-2000/4-41020-2340/7-57400-4400/1-61800-2680/1-64480
Structure of Examination
Selection is done through a two-tier online examination: Preliminary and Main. Candidates must qualify each test in the Preliminary exam by securing cut-off marks decided by IBPS, after which an adequate number of candidates will be shortlisted for the Main exam.
| Preliminary Exam | No. of Questions | Maximum Marks | Time Allotted |
|---|---|---|---|
| English Language | 30 | 30 | 20 minutes |
| Numerical Ability | 35 | 35 | 20 minutes |
| Reasoning Ability | 35 | 35 | 20 minutes |
| Total | 100 | 100 | 60 minutes |
| Main Exam | No. of Questions | Maximum Marks | Time Allotted |
|---|---|---|---|
| General/Financial Awareness | 40 | 50 | 20 minutes |
| General English | 40 | 40 | 35 minutes |
| Reasoning Ability | 40 | 60 | 35 minutes |
| Quantitative Aptitude | 40 | 50 | 35 minutes |
| Total | 160 | 200 | 125 minutes |
There is a penalty for wrong answers in both the Preliminary and Main online examinations. For every question answered incorrectly, one-fourth (0.25) of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted. No penalty applies if a question is left blank. Marks obtained in the Online Main Examination only will be considered for the final merit list; Preliminary exam marks are used only for shortlisting.
Selection Process and Provisional Allotment
Candidates who qualify the Online Preliminary Examination and are shortlisted will appear for the Online Main Examination. Each candidate must obtain a minimum score in each test of the Main exam, plus a minimum total score, to be considered for provisional allotment. Depending on the number of State/UT-wise vacancies available, cut-offs will be decided by IBPS.
Depending on the actual vacancies to be filled during the financial year 2027-28, shortlisted candidates will be provisionally allotted to one of the Participating Banks, based on merit-cum-preference, keeping in view government reservation guidelines and administrative exigencies. A reserve list of approximately 30 percent of vacancies under each category may also be kept, subject to availability of candidates, though this does not guarantee eventual allotment.
After provisional allotment, candidates must also clear a Local Language Proficiency Test (LLPT), which is marks-based and qualifying in nature. Candidates who produce a 10th standard or higher mark-sheet/certificate evidencing that they studied the specified local language are exempt from this test. Candidates who fail to qualify the LLPT will not be offered appointment.

The vacancies listed below are indicative and based on figures reported by the Participating Banks to IBPS. Actual provisional allotment will be based on the real vacancies reported by each bank at the time of allotment.

Why You Should Apply for This Post
The IBPS Clerk exam is one of the most sought-after government job opportunities in India, offering a stable career in the public sector banking industry with clear pay scales, allowances, and long-term growth prospects. With over 11,400 indicative vacancies across 10 public sector banks and every state and union territory in India, CRP CSA-XVI gives graduate candidates from every part of the country a genuine opportunity to build a banking career close to home.
Preparation Tips
Since the Preliminary exam has a strict 20-minute time limit for each of the three sections, candidates should practice sectional mock tests to build both speed and accuracy in English Language, Numerical Ability, and Reasoning Ability. For the Main exam, adding General/Financial Awareness and stronger Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning practice is essential, since these sections carry higher weightage.
Since only Main exam marks count for the final merit list, candidates should treat the Preliminary exam purely as a qualifying hurdle and focus the bulk of their preparation time on Main-exam-level difficulty, especially current banking and financial awareness topics, which change frequently and need regular revision closer to the exam date.
General Instructions
- Not more than one application should be submitted by any candidate. In case of multiple applications, only the latest valid application will be retained, and fees paid for other registrations will be forfeited.
- Once a candidate registers and completes the application, no change in category, State/UT, name, email ID, or mobile number will be permitted after the Edit Window closes.
- Candidates must possess a valid Aadhaar card, as IBPS/Participating Banks may conduct online Aadhaar verification at various stages of the selection process.
- Merely qualifying the CRP or being provisionally allotted does not guarantee employment; the Participating Bank retains full discretion to reject any candidature at its sole discretion.
- Any dispute arising out of this recruitment process is subject to the jurisdiction of courts situated at Mumbai.
- Candidates are advised to regularly visit the official IBPS website, www.ibps.in, for updates, corrigenda, and further announcements.
